Just ask Dayton what their conference tournament was like.
BYU comes into a stacked region with lots of promise but lots to worry about. They did play Iowa State very close but that loss to Texas Tech was humbling. Losing in conference tournaments is not the end of the world, but how they lost sparks some fear.
Duquesne’s ability to potentially contain BYU’s shooters and play some defense makes the +375 Moneyline bet very tempting. Again, this could be a milder upset in theory. The Dukes’ guards are underrated and shoot a little straighter than the Cougars. However, allowing 60 points a game over their final eight contest inches us toward the Under. Washington State has the defense and balance to get far in the NCAA Tournament. However, this East Region piles on the teams who can make that claim. One team books are high on is Drake. Late Thursday night, the Bulldogs are a slight favorite over the Cougars.
Drake’s headline star is Tucker DeVries. He does a bit of everything and averages 21.8 points per game. One player that usually has an advantage is Darnell Brodie. However, Washington State has three players who can potentially neutralize Drake’s advantage in the paint.
Washington State likes to play defense and concentrate more on half-court isolation plays. If the Cougars can keep DeVries from getting hot, they have a huge opportunity to win this game, maybe by more than even the most optimistic pundits expect. No. 9 Northwestern vs. No. 8 Florida Atlantic Prediction, 12:15 (CBS)

Florida Atlantic returned most of its starting base from last season’s run to the Final Four. Unfortunately, this season did not go quite as planned. Northwestern plays game tight, as is the standard operational procedure with the Big 10. Anyway, the Wildcats did drop three of their final four decisions. Again, Florida Atlantic has won 14 of its past 18 games. Throw out the Temple skunker, and the Owls thrive on playing closer games late. Alright, Connecticut loves playing at Madison Square Garden but they love neutral site games even more. Their last neutral site loss was in 2022. Stetson is not too well known. Jalen Blackman may be the only true game-breaker for the Hatters. He averages nearly 22 points a game. The problem is Stetson is going against one of the most relentless defenses in the country and they can push the ball up the court too.
The Huskies’ offensive rating tops the nation but they are 31st defensively. That latter metric is likely in the Top 20 if not for that Creighton egg. Connecticut went 6-0 ATS in the 2023 tournament. With their balance and Donovan Clingan rolling, that cover is likely Friday afternoon.
