Gaming Innovation Group Inc. (GiG), has signed a terms agreement with U.S.-based sports betting brand, Crab Sports.

GiG plans to provide its platform and sportsbook in MD, once the Maryland sportsbook apps become available to local residents.

This deal marks the first of its kind in the U.S. for the new and greatly-expanded offering of GiG and Sportnco, and will give an insight into the combined product offering that we’ve not seen before on the U.S. gambling front.

Founded in 2012, GiG operates out of Malta. It is a leading iGaming technology company, providing solutions, products and services for operators, and this deal with Crab Sports is set to allow a much slicker experience for bettors in Maryland.

What is Crab Sports?

The Crab Sports team brings to Maryland 20 years' experience with technology that has been a leader in the space. Its turnkey solution includes a technical platform, a control management system, and the recently acquired popular sportsbook, Sportnco Sportsbook. This is all powered by GiG's unique data and Gig Logic rules-based solutions.

With a deep understanding of the current market through years of experience in Europe, its mission is to build a compelling experience and brand that will resonate strongly in Maryland.

"I am delighted to have partnered with Crab Sports,” Richard Brown, CEO of GiG, said in a news release. “We see great potential in the Crab Sports excellent team and local approach and we see great potential in Maryland. We look forward to working closely with the Crab Sports team to maximize their potential through a successful launch.

“This is a proud moment for us and highlights the faith we have in the synergies between GiG and Sportnco. This type of deal is directly in our 'wheelhouse', helping challenger brands drive value and enter newly regulated markets, showcasing our product in the 'soon to be' open Maryland market."

The aim of both GiG and Crab Sports is to combine to make a strong locally-recognized brand with a quality product focused on user experience, conversion, and retention in a market that is anticipated to generate $217 million of revenue in the first year, even without the ability to bet online.

What Does This Mean for Maryland Bettors?

Sports betting in Maryland has been on the table since November 2020, and state legislators passed bills facilitating wagering in April 2021 with online sportsbooks.

As of now, there are no legal online sports betting options for Maryland residents, but it is expected that this will come towards the end of 2022 or early ‘23.

With the launch expected to come soon, this means bettors in Maryland will see Crab Sports come into space with an unrivaled set of tools that is set to appeal to the locals, just as much as FanDuel, DraftKings or Caesars Maryland.
