Missouri To Announce First Two Sports Betting Licenses In August

Three sports betting operators seeking one of two untethered mobile licenses in Missouri are preparing to make their case to state officials in August.
On Aug. 13, Circa Sports, DraftKings and FanDuel are scheduled to appear before the Missouri Gaming Commission in Jefferson City. Two days later, the commission plans to announce which two will be awarded an untethered license, officials said. The two untethered operators don't have to partner with a casino or professional sports team.
Legal sports betting begins in Missouri on Dec. 1. Sport betting already is legal in most states, including every state bordering Missouri except Oklahoma.
Missouri also will issue sports betting licenses tethered to casinos and professional sports teams in the state. Those applications are due by Sept. 12. So far, the sports betting operator Underdog is the only company to apply for one of those mobile licenses.
In addition to sports betting operators, companies seeking approval for a sports wagering supplier’s license also have submitted applications to operate in the state. These are:
- Catalist, a data provider
- GLI, an independent testing lab
- GeoComply, a geolocation compliance provider
- OpticOdds, a data provider
Once legal sports betting begins, bettors age 21 and over in Missouri will be allowed to wager in person at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks or by using a cellphone or computer anywhere in the state. Missouri is home to 13 casinos.
