Oregon saw a slight decrease in sports betting activity during February.

The state reported a sports betting handle of $39.4 million ($39.1 million from DraftKings, $273,328 from Scoreboard), a decrease of 8% from January’s $42.9 million and up 33.3% from February 2021’s $29.6 million.

The state’s sports betting revenue came to $3.3 million ($3.3 from DraftKings, minus-$8,185 from Scoreboard), an increase of 39.6% from January’s $2.4 million and 24.2% more than February 2021’s $2.7 million.

Totaling the DraftKings and Scoreboard numbers, basketball was the most bet on sport in Oregon during February, taking in $20.3 million in bets. Football ($5.1 million), hockey ($4.3 million), soccer ($3.3 million) and tennis ($2.5 million) rounded out the top five. All other sports accounted for $3.9 million of the overall handle.

DraftKings Takeover

On Jan. 18, DraftKings Sportsbook became the sole operator in Oregon’s online sports betting market, taking over from the state’s Scoreboard lottery website and application.

Oregon is the second state where DraftKings is the sole operator. In 2019, it struck a deal with the New Hampshire Lottery to be the lone sportsbook in the state.

“We’re excited about the improved experience for our players – including the ability to make same game parlay bets. DraftKings is a premier provider in the US,” Barry Pack, Director, Oregon Lottery, said in a media release. “We see benefits for Lottery too, as the shift to DraftKings means fewer third-party service providers and a simpler financial structure for player accounts.”

DraftKings’ arrival has been five months in the making. During an August commission meeting, the Oregon Lottery approved the transition. But it wasn’t until Jan. 18 that Oregon residents were able to begin placing bets on one of the most popular platforms in the country.

It has been over five months since Oregon bettors knew DraftKings would be coming to its state. In an August commission meeting, the Oregon Lottery approved the transition.

“DraftKings is thrilled to embark on this journey with the Oregon Lottery as we build out a coast-to-coast presence with our top-rated online sportsbook for these fans to experience ahead of the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl,” Paul Liberman, co-founder and President Global Technology and Product, said in a media release.

“The Oregon Lottery shares our innovative spirit as one of the most progressive organizations in the real-money gaming sector, and together we look forward to delivering the exceptional online sportsbook products that Oregonians have been anticipating.”
