New York Gaming Machine Revenue Rises To $2.48 Billion In 2025

Turnover from New York’s video gaming machine (VGM) sector continued to show strength in 2025, generating $2.48 billion in revenue as the fastest-growing segment of the state’s gambling market.

The figures indicate sustained player demand and suggest the sector can coexist alongside casinos and online betting while maintaining a steady upward trajectory.

Operators reporting gross revenue from the state’s licensed VGM venues - including racetracks, bars and restaurants, and gaming halls - posted a modest year-over-year increase compared with 2024.

Growth was driven by strong player engagement and broader acceptance of community-based gaming that complements both brick-and-mortar casinos and the online gaming sector.

Industry insiders cited several contributing factors, including improved machine offerings, marketing efforts targeting regional areas, and a broader mix of games designed to appeal to a wider audience.

Others pointed to technological advancements and the expansion of cashless gaming access, which have attracted everyone from frequent players to casual gamers.

The record total is particularly notable given inflationary pressures and shifting consumer habits.

While some entertainment segments softened in 2025, VGMs in New York continued to draw patrons from both urban and suburban areas, reinforcing the importance of social connection and local entertainment within a year-round revenue model.

State officials emphasize that video gaming machines are important not only for their revenue-generating capabilities, but also for how proceeds are used to fund community programs and essential public services.

A portion of VGM revenue is distributed to municipalities and local governments to support schools, public safety initiatives, and infrastructure improvements across New York State.

Revenue rose year-over-year in December, though results were softer than earlier months as holiday travel and seasonal spending reduced local play.

Analysts note that VGM performance tends to track closely with local routines and year-end priorities, rather than destination-driven casino traffic.

For many communities, VGMs are more than entertainment.

They support local businesses, provide jobs, and contribute meaningfully to the hospitality economy.
