Casino Control Commission Chairman Optimistic About AC Casinos Despite Dipping Numbers

The January 2024 figures are in for land-based Atlantic City casinos, and the revenue has taken a hit in the year-over-year department.

Bringing in $205 million was a 3.1% decrease from January 2023. This number may decrease as NJ online casinos become more advanced and popular with features like live dealer games.

The 3.1% decrease is also jarring as Golden Nugget, Hard Rock, and Ocean Casino saw increases of 2.3%, 3.9%, and 8.3%, respectively. These casinos all saw $33 million or more. There are nine casinos, with the bottom six accounting for just over half of the total revenue.

This down month also comes at a time when Las Vegas casinos are surging, seeing over $900 million in December 2023. However, that area is nearly synonymous with gambling.

The Casino Control Commission is Optimistic

Despite the drop, James Plousis, the Casino Control Commission chairman, is optimistic.

“Internet gaming win set a new monthly record, which, along with strong sports wagering revenue, helped Atlantic City’s total gaming revenue achieve its highest level for the month of January since 2006,” said Plousis. “Although casino win was lower compared to the same month last year, it was the second-best January result in 11 years.”
