Expert Analysis
Bryant Adams, co-host of the NCAA baseball podcast “Caught Looking,” said he expects the following teams to advance to Omaha: Tennessee, Texas, Louisville, Oklahoma, Stanford, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Oregon State.
Adams told Gambling.com the Tennessee-Notre Dame pairing at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville is expected “to be one of the most entertaining series of super regional weekend.”
“Lindsey Nelson stadium is not a big ballpark, and the baseball is known to fly out of the place with regularity, and this weekend should be no different,” Adams said. “If you enjoy watching home runs, this is going to be the must watch series for you, with Tennessee likely advancing.”
Another intriguing matchup will be the one between Virginia Tech and Oklahoma at the Hokies’ ballpark in Blacksburg, Virginia, Adams said.
“Virginia Tech is the second best offense in the country behind only the Tennessee Volunteers,” he said. “The Hokies have seven batters with more than 10 home runs and four players with double-digit stolen bases.”
However, Virginia Tech lacks “a proven third game starter,” which could be a problem against the red-hot Sooners.
Adams predicted Oklahoma’s pitching and consistent play will win out “over the higher-ranked and more potent offense of Virginia Tech.”
