BetMGM Taps Jon Hamm For NFL Ad Campaign

BetMGM has enlisted actor Jon Hamm to front its latest football-season marketing push, a campaign called "It Happens Here" built around a fictional venue the operator calls the Legends Lounge.

The campaign, created with independent agency CAPE, debuted on August 29 with a spot titled "Raise the Stakes" and will run across TV, social, digital and out-of-home placements through the NFL season.

It is billed as the next chapter of BetMGM's long-running "Make It Legendary" platform, part of a wider push across the sportsbooks market ahead of kickoff.

Four Spots Built In Single Setting

Hamm anchors a series of four multi-channel spots set inside the Legends Lounge, a space BetMGM describes as combining the energy of a sportsbook or casino floor, the exclusivity of a speakeasy and the buzz of a Las Vegas entertainment venue.

The company built the physical set for the shoot and says it plans further activations built around the same concept.

"As we enter the most exciting time of year for our players, we wanted to create a campaign that feels distinctly BetMGM while tapping into MGM Resorts' entertainment legacy," said Matt Prevost, chief revenue officer at BetMGM.

"With Jon's magnetic charm and CAPE's creative vision, 'It Happens Here' ties together the breadth of experiences we offer in a way that's unmistakably BetMGM."

Hamm's Second Run With BetMGM

Hamm said the Legends Lounge concept gave him plenty to work with. "The Legends Lounge is a world full of unexpected moments and memorable characters, and I enjoyed helping bring it to life for BetMGM's new campaign," he said. "It's clever, entertaining and a lot of fun."

The campaign is the first major work under BetMGM's expanded partnership with CAPE, which previously produced the operator's responsible gambling campaign "Mullet Over" and the "Lucky Doe" spot for Borgata Online.

CAPE co-founder and chief executive Casey Ritts said the Legends Lounge "gives us a rich new world for the brand to play in."

Part Of A Wider Push For NFL Attention

BetMGM is live in 31 markets across mobile and retail. The operator says responsible gambling remains a focus alongside the marketing expansion, pointing to GameSense, the play-management program developed and licensed to MGM Resorts, as a resource for customers on its sports betting app.

BetMGM's move follows a broader pattern across the industry of operators leaning on recognisable actors and comedians rather than athletes alone to cut through a crowded pre-season advertising slate, as sportsbooks compete for the same pool of new NFL bettors in the weeks before the season opener between the Patriots and Seahawks in Seattle

A campaign built around a recurring fictional setting gives BetMGM more creative room to keep the concept fresh across a full season rather than needing a new hook for each placement.
