New Hampshire Sports Betting Revenue Takes Big Dive in February

There was a substantial decrease in New Hampshire sports betting activity during February.
The state reported a total monthly handle of $70.9 million, down 28.8% from January’s $99.5 million and was 39% higher than February 2021’s $50.9 million. February’s handle was the lowest since June 2020 when sports were limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mobile betting accounted for $59.1 million of the total handle, a decrease of 27.6% from January’s $81.6 million and was 37.5% higher than February 2021’s $42.9 million.
New Hampshire’s February gross gaming revenue was $1.01 million, down 87.3% from January’s $8 million and a decrease of 43% from February 2021’s $1.8 million.
The state’s February state revenue share was $458,353, down 88.2% from January’s $3.9 million and a decrease of 40.4% from February 2021’s $769,387.

January was a record-setting month for sports betting in New Hampshire, with the $99.5 million handle and $8 million in revenue, both new highs.
It’s not surprising to see lower figures in February given the month is the shortest of the year and is the first not to have regularly scheduled NFL games besides the Super Bowl.
Churchill Downs Incorporated to Acquire Gaming Facility in New Hampshire
Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) is set to gain a charitable gaming facility in New Hampshire. CDI signed a definitive agreement to acquire Chasers Poker Room in Salem, New Hampshire.
“New Hampshire is an exciting opportunity for us, one that allows us to put our historical racing machine expertise to work in the growing New England market,” CDI chief executive Bill Carstanjen said in a news release. “We look forward to sharing more about our plans to build an expanded, state-of-the-art gaming facility in Salem in the coming months.”
Chasers is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Boston and opened in 2017. The facility offers poker and numerous table games to players in the area. A portion of its revenue goes to non-profit organizations licensed in the state. Since opening, it has led all New Hampshire charitable gaming operators in both gaming revenue and local charitable contributions.
CDI plans to use the facility to develop an expanded charitable gaming facility to accommodate historical racing machines. In 2021, New Hampshire authorized existing charitable gaming operators to offer historical horse racing at licensed facilities.
Once the deal closes, New Hampshire will mark the fourth state where CDI operates historical horse racing. Currently, the company offers historical horse racing in Kentucky and will operate in Virginia upon closing of the pending acquisition of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment and in Louisiana upon completion of the historical horse racing expansion into the company’s 14 existing off-track betting facilities.
The transaction with Chasers is dependent on obtaining approvals from the New Hampshire Lottery commission and is expected to close during the second quarter of 2022.
