Pennsylvania iGaming Goes Up as Sports Betting Numbers Go Down in December

After a stellar fall of increased activity in Pennsylvania sports betting, the state closed 2021 with lower sports wagering figures across the board.

Pennsylvania Saw Drop in December

The state’s monthly handle for December was $750.4 million, a decrease of 1.47% from November’s $761.6 million but was up 36.8% from December 2020’s $548.6 million.

Mobile betting made up the majority of the wagers, with the state taking $693.3 million in online wagers, down 1.53% from November’s $704.1 million and 29.5% more than December 2020’s $535.2 million. For December, online betting made up 92.3% of the overall sports betting market in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania’s gross sports betting revenue (taxable) was $18.8 million in December, a decrease of 70.5% from November’s record-high $63.7 million and down 44.9% from December 2020’s $34.1 million.

Pennsylvania Gaming Numbers Up in December

While sports betting was down in Pennsylvania, the casino game numbers increased overall in December.

Table games gross revenue was $83.4 million, up 0.6% from November’s $82.9 million. The interactive slots handle was $2.1 billion, an increase of 12.7% from November’s $1.9 billion.

Interactive slots gross revenue came to $68.8 million, up 8.3% from November’s $63.5 million.

Retail slots had a December handle of $2.5 billion, 6.6% more than November’s $2.4 billion. The retail slots gross terminal revenue was $195.5 million, up 5.4% from November's $185.5 million.

Interactive banking tables produced a handle of $2.1 billion, a 12.9% increase from November’s $1.9 billion. The interactive banking tables had a gross revenue of $30.3 million, 9.4% more than November’s $27.7 million.

PointsBet Coming to Pennsylvania

On Thursday, PointsBet announced it had been awarded a sports betting and interactive gaming operator license by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Through its exclusive partnership with Penn National Gaming, PointsBet Sportsbook will be eligible to offer online sports betting and internet casino products in the state.
