Post Positions, Odds Released For Saturday’s 150th Preakness Stakes

The post positions and early odds are available for Saturday’s 150th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, with Journalism as the early favorite.

On Sunday, Aron Wellman, president and founder of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, co-owners of Journalism, said the team decided the 3-year-old colt would run in the Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Journalism was favored in the May 3 Kentucky Derby and was ahead of the 18 other 3 year olds going down the stretch until a hard-charging Sovereignty shot past him to finish first. Journalism finished second in the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

Sovereignty is not running in the Preakness, instead waiting for the third leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes in New York. This decision led to a debate over spacing out the Triple Crown dates to give horses more time to recover.

At Pimlico, a $14.3 million construction project, to begin in about a month, will require the site to be demolished and rebuilt at the current location, according to Mallory Sofastaii of WMAR-TV. The redeveloped race course is expected to be ready in time for the 2027 Preakness.
