Novig Launches Nationwide As Federally Regulated Sports Prediction Market

Key Takeaways:
- Novig re-launched as a prediction market after receiving federal designation earlier this year.
- Just before its re-launch, Novig was named the exclusive official prediction market partner of the NY Mets.
- This week, Novig set its minimum age requirement at 21+ as part of its comprehensive responsible trading framework.
Novig went live nationwide on August 4, 2026, after the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission designated the company a Designated Contract Market, the federal status that allows it to list sports-event contracts nationwide. The company confirmed the rollout in its own announcement, framing it as the widest expansion yet for a prediction-markets platform built specifically for sports.
Novig said the nationwide switch brings instant live trading, deeper liquidity across its markets, and expanded payment options for funding accounts. The company also said it has passed $6 billion in cumulative trading volume, which it called the fastest growth of any sports prediction market to date.
Nationwide Launch Follows CFTC Designation
Jacob Fortinsky, co-founder and chief executive of Novig, tied the launch to the company's broader pitch to sports bettors.
"For too long, sports fans have had limited ways to engage with the markets they know best," he said. "We built Novig to change that, not only by creating the best place to trade sports, but by setting the standard for what a modern sports prediction market should be. That has meant building with trust, transparency, and responsible participation at the center, including maintaining a 21+ age requirement and investing in the compliance, market surveillance, and safeguards needed to scale responsibly."
Novig said it remains the only prediction market operator that sets a 21+ minimum to trade, a standard it applies nationwide rather than as a state-by-state carve-out.
Novig Announces Mets Partnership
Novig's push for scale has run alongside a push into sports partnerships.
On July 30, 2026, the company said in a separate announcement that it had signed a multi-year deal to become the exclusive official prediction market partner of the New York Mets, its first tie-up with a professional sports team, covering in-ballpark signage at Citi Field, branded broadcast moments, and digital content aimed at Mets fans.
"We're proud to be the first Major League Baseball club to partner with a prediction market company, giving our fans a new and engaging way to connect with the game," said Lew Sherr, president of business operations for the Mets.
A Responsible Trading Rulebook, Nationwide
This week, Novig announced a formal responsible trading framework. The framework is set forth in Chapter 14 of the rulebook of Ludlow Exchange LLC, the CFTC-regulated exchange entity through which Novig operates, rather than left as an optional set of customer tools.
The rulebook change does the following:
- Sets a nationwide 21+ age standard with identity verification and account suspension where there are signs of underage access
- Commits Novig to deposit, loss, and exposure limits, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion options up to an indefinite ban
- Marketing rules that bar "risk-free" claims and promotions aimed at recent losses.
The company said the exchange will keep records and metrics on the framework's effectiveness and make them available to the CFTC on request.
"Trust is the foundation of every market, and it's earned through clear rules and accountability," Fortinsky said of the framework. "Responsible trading shouldn't rest solely with the customer, it should always begin with the exchange itself. By codifying responsible trading standards directly into our rulebook, we're holding ourselves to the same high standard we expect of our participants and establishing a new benchmark for how federally regulated prediction markets should operate."
The move comes as prediction markets face friction with state gambling regulators over whether sports-linked contracts constitute unlicensed betting. Nevada and Michigan regulators have separately acted this year against prediction-market operators they classify as offering unlicensed sportsbooks in their states.
What's Next for Novig?
Together, the nationwide DCM designation, the codified responsible trading rules, and the Mets deal mark Novig's biggest push yet to position itself as a mainstream option alongside licensed sports betting operators, even as state regulators continue to test where prediction markets fit under existing gambling law.
Novig has not said whether other professional sports partnerships are in the works, but the timing of the three announcements within two weeks points to a company moving quickly to lock in both regulatory standing and consumer trust before rivals do the same.
