What Kind of Odds Are the Americans Getting in the World Cup?

After missing out on action in Russia four years ago, the United States men’s national soccer team will make its return to the World Cup at Qatar 2022.
It'll be the 11th time the Stars and Stripes have made it to the World Cup finals, and they come into this one with some of the top talents in world soccer.
But how do the Americans stack up? We take an early look ahead to the USMNT World Cup odds for 2022.
America's Odds To Win the Group
After battling in an incredibly tough group in 2014 which saw the USMNT finish ahead of Portugal in Brazil, the Americans seem to be in a more winnable group. Soccer fever took over the nation that summer in 2014, and with Iran, England and Wales to contend with this time, America should have some hope.
England is the favorite in Group B, but this is expected given how it almost won the European Championships just a year ago and has some of the world’s greatest players on the roster.
England is a -260 favorite to win the four-way battle, then Wales at +600 and the U.S. at +650.
With England expected to win Group B, the theory is whoever wins between Wales and the USMNT likely progresses into the knockout rounds. The competition to qualify out of the group is echoed in the odds, with FanDuel pricing the USMNT and Wales at +110 to qualify.
America's Odds to Win the World Cup
Nobody is expecting the USMNT to win the World Cup. The bookmakers have it at +11000. This puts the Americans ahead of Canada (+18000) in the odds list, even with Mexico and Poland.
Africa Cup of Nations winners Senegal is +10000, and group rival Wales — despite having lower odds to win the group — is priced higher than the USMNT at odds of +14000.
If you're backing the USA to become only the ninth nation in 92 years to win the World Cup, a $10 bet could get you $1,100.
America's Odds Against England and Wales
England faces Iran and USA plays Wales on Nov. 21 in the most important fixture of Group B.
Ultimately, England is expected to finish at the top, and Iran is likely to finish last. So, it seems to be down to Wales and the USMNT to see who takes second. FanDuel has the USMNT at odds of +150 to beat Wales, with the Dragons priced at +185 to win.
The USMNT is the favorite heading into the game, despite being third-favorites to win the group behind Wales. Wales is only priced higher to win the group because it’s expected to give England a tougher test than the USA because of the British rivalry.
Against England four days later, however, things look a lot different, as the USMNT is a +400 underdog to beat the recent European Championship runners-up. This is no shame, as England is the third-favorite to win the tournament behind defending champions France and record-winning side Brazil.
Can a USMNT Player Get the Golden Boot?
If a player from the USMNT is going to win the Golden Boot, Christian Pulisic is the most likely, according to the sportsbooks.
Pulisic is priced at +6500 to finish as the tournament's top scorer, which puts him on the same odds as Belgium's captain and star forward Eden Hazard.
What's more, it's only +1500 higher than Los Angeles FC's new star man and Wales’ all-time top scorer, Gareth Bale.
Odds have not been offered on other USMNT forwards like Jesús Ferreira and Brenden Aaronson. Timothy Weah is priced at +11000, just behind the +10000 price of Canada's all-time leading scorer, Cyle Larin.
