ABBA Might Take A Chance On Bally’s At A’s Las Vegas Stadium Site

Now in its third year at a custom-built venue in London, ABBA Voyage continues to be one of the most in-demand live entertainment experiences in the world.

The innovative show, with digital versions of the legendary Swedish group, has mesmerized more than three million people around the world since it opened in 2022. Now, it appears Las Vegas might be on the list!

According to industry insiders, Bally, also regarded as being one of the best online casinos, is actively in negotiations with ABBA’s production team to bring ABBA Voyage to the Strip.

Such a deal would be among the largest entertainment imports to land in Las Vegas in recent years, blending the nostalgia of ABBA’s timeless hits with the city’s evolution as a center for immersive, technology-driven productions.

The development is said to be planned for the proposed Bally’s site at the corner of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, the same location that will soon be home to the new ballpark for the A’s, who are moving from Oakland.

The company’s vision calls for a 2,500-seat theater, a 3,000-room hotel and more than 500,000 square feet of restaurants, shops and entertainment space.

The theater, where ABBA Voyage might find a home, would come in the second phase of the development, with the ballpark set to be ready for the A’s 2028 season opener.

Bringing ABBA Voyage to Las Vegas presents its own set of challenges.

The success in London has been attributed to its tailor-made 3,000-seat “ABBA Arena”, a cutting-edge venue designed specifically for the production’s high-tech digital staging and lighting.

Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad's avatars were produced in partnership with Industrial Light & Magic, the visual effects company established by George Lucas.

The technology is so specialized that reproducing the show in another location would almost certainly require a purpose-built facility, a substantial outlay even by Las Vegas standards.

Other potential locations have been floated, including Resorts World Las Vegas, which has undeveloped land suitable for a large-scale build, and Area15, the experiential entertainment complex known for its creative use of immersive environments.

Still, Bally’s appears to be leading the race, with executives reportedly eager to make ABBA Voyage a centerpiece of their new project.

The appeal for Las Vegas is obvious. The city has a long history with the ABBA brand.

Mamma Mia! ran for six years at Mandalay Bay, testifying to the group’s staying power among local and visiting audiences.

ABBA Voyage would build on that legacy for the future by using technology to immerse fans in songs like “Dancing Queen”, “Take a Chance on Me” and “Waterloo.”

Those who have attended the London show say it’s nothing less than breathtaking.

The photorealistic avatars dance with a 10-piece live band in a performance so fluid that even the most dubious audiences find themselves caught under the spell.

Fans turn out in sequins and bell-bottoms, willing to dance, sing and relive the disco era.

If the deal goes through, Las Vegas could soon host one of the most technologically advanced live productions ever staged in the city.

It’s still early days - ABBA Voyage in Vegas may be a few years away - but as the saying goes, the winner takes it all.
