⭐ Carlos Alcaraz to beat Grigor Dimitrov 2-1 (+280) at FanDuel
After moving to the world number one spot in the world rankings, Alcaraz has moved to number two behind Djokovic after his US Open loss. On the other hand, he hasn’t exactly gotten worse since winning Wimbledon, but things haven’t been entirely plain sailing.
The Spaniard lost to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the China Open just two weeks ago, losing 7-6, 6-1, with the latter set proving to be one of his worst displays of the tennis season. Prior to this, the Wimbledon champion defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-2 and also beat Lorenzo Musetti and Yannick Hanfmann in Beijing too.
As has been the case throughout the past two years, Alcaraz also made it to the US Open semi-finals before losing to Daniil Medvedev in a four-set thriller. He managed to win one of those sets 6-3, and the 20-year-old will also be pleased with how he handled Dan Evans and Alexander Zverev in the matches before that defeat to Medvedev.
However, despite a sensational year, Dimitrov will fancy his chances here and could take a set. Alcaraz is -170 to win 2-0, but at +280 for a 2-1 victory for the Spanish superstar, things look a little more appealing there.
Dimitrov defeated 13th-ranked Karen Kachanov in the round of 32 the other day and also eased past Alexsandar Vukic before that. He did also make it to the quarter-finals of the China Open, and like Alcaraz, he lost to Sinner.
It has been a decent few months for Dimitrov, who continues to prove why he is consistently ranked in the top 20. He is likely to lose this one, however, but we expect him to take a set off of Alcaraz in a 2-1 loss as part of our Shanghai Masters predictions.
