Why You Can Trust Gambling.com's NY Sportsbook Reviews
NY sportsbooks are available online, allowing you to bet from anywhere in the Empire State. But which ones should you choose? That's where we come in. We've done all the hard work for you, reviewing every legal NY sportsbook.
Our experts have thoroughly tested all the apps, reviewed the terms and conditions, and evaluated their user experience to provide you with an honest assessment.
1. DraftKings New York: Best for NBA
DraftKings New York holds NBA partnerships on two levels: a league-wide co-official sports betting partnership with the NBA itself, plus a direct tie to the Knicks specifically.
Dynasty Rewards tracks loyalty on every bet placed, and a retail sportsbook at Del Lago Resort & Casino backs the mobile app.
During our testing, we found that the site can feel cluttered given how many markets it covers across every sport, and customer service turnaround isn’t always fast.
For Knicks fans and NBA bettors generally, DraftKings NY combines markets, promotions, and partnerships that no one else offers.

What NY Betting App Users are Saying
Apple
- "I've been using it a few years now. It's easy to navigate and withdrawing money is a breeze. 10/10 recommend."
- "App is very user friendly and a lot of great bonuses"
Android
- "DraftKings is the best sports betting app. I like their easy fast withdrawals when you win."
- "hard to log on at times with great internet connection"
2. FanDuel New York: Best for NFL
FanDuel remains one of the NFL’s current official league-level betting partners, a relationship that extends down to the team level through a shared tie with the Bills.
Rewards Club now enrolls every bettor automatically, closing what used to be the app’s biggest gap, and a retail sportsbook at Tioga Downs backs the mobile product.
Promotions beyond the welcome offer can be thinner than those of some competitors, and market depth occasionally lags behind DraftKings in other niche sports. But FanDuel’s NFL markets and unique partnerships lead the state.

What NY Betting App Users are Saying
Apple
- "I use FanDuel mostly for sports betting and the software and layout and how they give u real-time stats and what not and that’s why I use them over DraftKings."
Android
- "There is a really annoying notification for your monthly report that shows up every single time you use the app even after you have viewed it. It covers up the menu options at the bottom so you can't even ignore the message. You have to go into the view statements section every time you use the app. Really bad coding and design on their part. Also it has issues getting your location even though other apps have no problem."
3. Caesars Sportsbook New York: Best for MLB
Caesars is the Mets’ exclusive sports betting partner, with signage at Citi Field and a planned Caesars lounge there as part of the multi-year agreement.
Caesars Rewards points are redeemed online for perks like hotel stays, dining, and other personalized offers. We found that bonus fund releases can be sluggish, and live streaming remains limited.
Still, if you're ready to get the full MLB experience in New York, Caesars Sportsbook is a great option for you.

What NY Betting App Users are Saying
Apple
- "Love winning money on this book as for some reason I have the best luck with all my bets placed here so maybe that's why l'm bias in giving 4 stars...l use every book u can name in nys lol as far as I know at least and this is one of the more buggy ones. Constantly reloading and going back to main screen having to log back in sometimes unusable for hours at a time which doesn't happen often but has happened multiple times. If this app would run more smooth without crashing and all the other little bugs it would be almost flawless."
- "Also maybe take a page out of fan duel and draft kings book as far as markets go. Need more markets more things to bet on for each game... also love the addition of some of the leagues for hockey, basketball, soccer etc i know nys is behind the ball when it comes to gambling on certain foreign leagues and what not but it's getting better and Caesar's is one of the books that's keeping up to date as far as this goes. Cmon Caesar's a little tweaking here and there and we good!!!"
Android
- "I like the way their sportsbook is set up, but man the app is so bad. It's very very slow at times. Don't double click, just give the app time to load. If it didn't have such a slow app I'd give it 4 or 5 stars but I just can't go above a 3 with how bad the app runs. Other than that the way its set up and the way betting works on Caesars Sportsbook is pretty good, no complaints on that end. Depositing and withdrawal is easy and doesn't take much time at all for your winnings to come to you."
4. Fanatics Sportsbook New York: Best for Rewards
Fanatics took over PointsBet’s New York operations in February 2024, arriving more than two years after the rest of this lineup.
FanCash is our top reason to sign up: a percentage of every wager comes back whether it wins or loses, redeemable for bonus bets or spent directly on Fanatics’ merchandise catalog. The app loads quickly with fewer glitches than some competitors, and search-and-discovery lets bettors wager straight from search results.
For bettors chasing ongoing wager value over a team tie or a physical counter, Fanatics competes.

What NY Betting App Users are Saying
Apple
- "I really like this book. The interface is clean and loads quickly. The boosts have continued past the first month of sign-ups and promos. Easy to find the bets I want without endless waiting and scrolling. I can use boosts often as long as I meet the minimum requirements. No ridiculous specs like you get with other Sportsbook apps like FD, DK, BetMGM, etc…Developers seem to listen to user feedback and implement suggestions. I recommend this book if it is available in your state."
Android
- "I like the markets and fan cash that's offered. However the app is finicky. Lots of times I can't see live markets, the loading times are slow, and it takes a while to place a bet. These problems are intermittent, I'll get on another time and it acts completely fine. If they shored up these issues I really love this app."
5. BetMGM New York: Best for NHL
BetMGM New York is the Rangers’ official sports betting partner, with branding visible throughout Madison Square Garden on game nights, backed by a retail sportsbook at Empire City Casino in Yonkers.
It's worth noting before signing up: welcome offers aren’t always available through BetMGM here the way they are with the other four operators on this list. Make sure to check the specific terms and conditions before signing up above. Once you're registered in the app, Easy Parlay and Same Game Parlay+ make building multi-leg bets, especially for BetMGM's notable NHL markets, simple.

What NY Betting App Users are Saying
Apple
- "I have never had any real issues playing via the sportsbook. It can be a little slow at times, but the options are rather impressive."
Android
- "It is fun and easy to use and understand. Great promotions, great range of betting options on NBA players for points, rebounds, and assists. Stat's have each teams record of wins and losses right next to the betting lines, which gives me an ideal way to look at each bet, who to bet on, saves me time doing research. Updating this APP works flawlessly, very fast and download speeds are great, some other New York Sportsbook APP'S have slow dragging speeds when placing a bet. Good promotions."

How We Review NY Betting Sites & Apps
We thoroughly inspect all New York sportsbooks before calculating our scores. Our team reviews sports betting sites covering everything from betting options and banking methods to live betting, odds, and customer support.
Licensing & Security
Credibility is essential; that's why the New York State Gaming Commission has licensed all NY sportsbooks we recommend. The NYSGC ensures that every operating sportsbook complies with state laws, providing all bettors with a fair and safe betting environment. Every game of chance must be registered with the DCWP (Division of Consumer and Worker Protection).
Licensing involves a thorough assessment and examination of the operator's integrity, financial stability, and compliance with New York betting laws. Having a regulator's stamp of approval means the site has been vetted and complies with the strictest regulations to ensure your safety, including keeping player funds separate to guarantee payouts.
We take security extremely seriously. We assess the measures each app uses to protect user data and transactions, including encryption standards, geolocation, and compliance with industry security protocols.
Trust Factors
Retail Access
Physical sportsbook locations give bettors an in-person option that mobile apps can't. It’s an added benefit when rewards can be redeemed there as well.
Promo Value
North Carolina sportsbooks should deliver easily accessible, tailored promos that add real value for local markets.
In-State Partnerships
An in-state team or venue partnership should ideally add functional features and promos.
State-Specific Features
How North Carolina regulates betting can either enhance or diminish the value a sportsbook gives to local users.
Market History
How long an app has been live in North Carolina tells us a lot. A longer track record means more time for bugs to get fixed, support to mature, and users to form opinions.
Core Product
From state to state, the quality should still remain largely consistent, from support responsiveness to payout speed to betting markets.

New York Sports Betting Legislation
Retail sports betting has been legal in the Empire State since 2013, with the commercial casinos in upstate New York offering several retail sportsbooks for bettors to choose from. Yet New York's online sports betting legalization process was unlike that of any other state in the country.
Online and mobile sports betting was legalized in New York through the 2022 fiscal year state budget. It authorized statewide mobile sports betting and directed the New York State Gaming Commission to regulate online sportsbooks.
It also set a 51% tax rate on online sports betting, which remains the highest nationwide. The push for such a high rate came from then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who had been opposed to legalizing betting in the state, eventually signed it into law.
Past attempts to legalize NY sports betting had been stalled due to constitutional debates. Therefore, the budget allowed only server-based wagering tied to commercial or tribal casino servers to comply with constitutional requirements.
You can't bet on college teams competing in the state, but you can bet on college games, including ones involving New York teams, taking place outside the state.
You have to pay federal tax (24%) and state tax (between 4% and 8.82%) on your gambling profits.
New York Sports Betting Licenses
How exactly did the NYS Gaming Commission decide which of the applicants would receive one of only a few NY sports betting licenses?
Here's a breakdown of the scoring system that was used to select them:
| Criteria | Points |
|---|---|
| Market expertise | 25 |
| Integrity, sustainability, safety | 20 |
| Past relevant experience | 15 |
| Advertising & promotional plans | 7.5 |
| Ability to launch rapidly & efficiently | 2.5 |
| Efforts to foster racial, ethnic, gender diversity | 2.5 |
| Misc. factors | 2.5 |
When added together, this means the maximum score is 75 points. However, the Gaming Commission stated that an additional 5 points were available to applicants who already have an established revenue-sharing agreement with an in-state Native American tribe, bringing the total to 80.
The higher the mobile betting applicant's proposed tax rate on sports betting revenue, the higher its score, with a maximum of 20 points awarded for a 50% share of all revenue.
Comparing NY Sports Betting vs. Other Regulated States
New York is considered one of the top online markets, given its fourth-largest population of nearly 19.3 million. California and Texas are not close to legalizing online sports betting, and Florida residents can only bet on sports at the Seminole Tribe-run Hard Rock Bet.
The state was somewhat ahead of its time with retail betting, offering a 10% tax rate that was operator-friendly for brick-and-mortar sportsbooks. Before legalization, the state was hemorrhaging money to New Jersey, with around 20% of gaming revenue coming from New Yorkers.

Alternatives to Legal Sports Betting in New York
| Form of Gambling | Legal |
|---|---|
| DFS Sites | Yes |
| Horse Racing Betting | Yes |
| Social NY Casinos | Yes |
| Land-Based Casinos | Yes |
| Real-Money Online Casinos | No |
Daily Fantasy Sports
The New York Attorney General ruled daily fantasy sports (DFS) illegal in 2015 after a massive surge in the popular games operated by DraftKings and FanDuel. That was overturned in 2016 after a lengthy appeals process. Now, DFS betting is entirely legal and regulated in New York.
DFS operators run daily contests in which participants pay an entry fee and assemble a fantasy lineup with a limited salary for that day’s NFL, MLB, NBA, or NHL games. Top-scoring lineups can win up to $1 million, depending on the contest and entry fee.
Online Horse Betting
Horse racing was the first type of legal betting offered in New York back in the 1930s. New York is one of the preeminent states for horse racing, with both Saratoga and Belmont being world-famous racetracks.
Racinos are popular throughout the state, featuring both live horse racing and off-track betting. The state also allows horse racing betting sites, and bettors across the state have easy access to legal horse racing betting in New York.
How to Bet Safely at NY Sportsbooks
We want you to enjoy online NY betting while also gambling responsibly.
Studies have revealed that the majority of bettors in the New York market are, in fact, responsible gamblers who set budgets for what they bet, whether online or in person. However, problem gambling is taken very seriously in the state.
Responsible Gambling
The NYS Gaming Commission, the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports, and the New York Council on Problem Gambling have formed the Responsible Play Partnership to ensure responsible gambling.
You can choose what limits you want to set for yourself, like deposit and wagering limits, through the responsible gambling section of your profile.
Always Bet with Regulated NY Sportsbooks
Regulated sportsbooks are licensed, regulated, and completely legal to play at. You may need to upload additional personal documents to verify your identity. These may include a copy of your current passport or government-issued photo ID.
The top apps can provide a safer, better-regulated online gambling experience, with your money and data protected.
When New York sportsbooks launched online, nearly 88% of accounts were created by bettors who were brand-new to the legal sports betting market, according to GeoComply, which provides geolocation compliance and fraud-security services nationwide.
“The data tell us that New Yorkers are dumping illegal sportsbooks for the new legal options, and operators are also excelling at attracting first-time bettors,” said Lindsay Slader, GeoComply’s managing director of gaming.
Unregulated sportsbooks are not subject to state regulation. They offer fewer player protections, including guardrails to promote responsible gambling.
