Zanevska announced on social media she was retiring due to back pain that didn't allow her to train and compete at the level she wanted to. She's spent most of her career ranked around the 100s and is just 9-15 in 2023 and 6-8 on hard courts.

It's unfortunate Zanevska got such a difficult draw at the U.S. Open, facing Aryna Sabalenka in the first round. We're going to take Sabalenka -7.5 (+104) at FanDuel. Zanevska has lost seven of her last eight matches, including multiple losses on the Challenger tour. We simply don't see her being competitive against an in-form Sabalenka.

Sofia Kenin vs. Ana Bogdan Predictions, Odds, Betting Tips

Sofia Kenin has had a bit of a rebirth as of late. The 2020 Australian Open champion fell as low as No. 228 in the world rankings in 2022 but has had a better 2023. Kenin hasn't played since Wimbledon but returns to a surface that she previously dominated on. Ana Bogdan can produce power, but we like Kenin to win (-160) at BetMGM due to her consistency which should allow her to win extended rallies.

Kenin has shown she can elevate her game in marquee events, and we expect more of that from her here. Nogdan also enters on a three-match losing streak.

Jessica Pegula vs. Camila Giorgi Predictions, Odds, Betting Tips

Jessica Pegula remains one of the top Americans who can win a grand slam on home soil. She enters the U.S. Open ranked No. 3 and recently won the WTA Montreal 1000 event just over two weeks ago. Her form is solid.

We're going with Pegula to win 2-0 (-160) at FanDuel. Pegula has won seven of eight matches against Giorgi and remains in better form. Giorgi suffered first-round defeats in both Montreal and Cincinnati and was forced to retire in the third set to Rebecca Marino in Cincinnati.
