FanDuel Reports Record NFL Week 1 Sunday For Active Customers

FanDuel Sportsbook logged its biggest NFL regular-season Sunday ever by active customers on September 13, 2026, the operator said, as Week 1 of the new season drove a broader surge in US sportsbook activity. "The NFL season is off to a record-breaking start at FanDuel," the company said.
"Our sportsbook recorded its biggest NFL regular season Sunday ever by active customers. Football Sundays bring fans together like nothing else, and we can't wait for the season ahead."

Record Registrations And Geolocation Checks Industry-Wide
Independent data backs up the scale of the Week 1 surge. Geolocation technology provider GeoComply recorded 99.8 million geolocation checks from US-licensed sportsbook customers on the season's opening Sunday, an increase of nearly 176% from the 36.2 million checks it logged on August 30, the final Sunday before kickoff, according to a report from Covers citing the company's own release.
New sportsbook account registrations rose even more sharply, with roughly 135,700 new accounts created on the day, up more than 310% from the 33,000 registered two weeks earlier. GeoComply's Sunday check total also topped the 81.4 million it recorded during Super Bowl LX in February, though the two events cover different betting windows.
"Football doesn't just wake up the bettors already on a platform," GeoComply said in the release. "It brings in brand-new players who want in on the action."
Prediction Markets Set Records Of Their Own
The opening weekend was also a record one for sports event contracts. More than $510.9 million was traded on NFL-linked markets across seven of the ten prediction-market operators tracked by Aldrin Research, with Kalshi accounting for $388.1 million, or roughly 76%, of that volume.
DraftKings Predictions, Crypto.com, Novig and ProphetX also set or approached platform records over the same weekend. Sportsbook executives have long argued that prediction markets widen the pool of sports bettors rather than simply pulling customers away from state-licensed operators such as FanDuel, and the parallel records logged by both sides of the market on the same Sunday support that view.
New Rewards Club And AI Tools Launched Before Kickoff
FanDuel had already built up its NFL season offering before kickoff. On September 1, the operator announced a new points-based Rewards Club, an expanded version of its Bet Protect+ injury-protection add-on and new in-app "Game Intelligence" tools, including an AI assistant called AceAI built directly into player pages.
"Our customers look forward to football season, and this year we're giving them more control of their experience to make it the most rewarding season ever," said Karol Corcoran, Managing Director, Sports at FanDuel, in the announcement.
FanDuel is a subsidiary of Flutter Entertainment (NYSE: FLUT), whose executives have flagged a return to football-season growth as central to the company's 2026 outlook after a rockier run of NFL margins the previous season.
What It Means For Bettors
Week 1's numbers give an early read on how that push landed with customers, even before official state-by-state betting handle figures for September are released in the coming months.
FanDuel did not disclose specific customer or handle figures alongside its record claim, but the surrounding data on registrations and geolocation activity points to one of the busiest opening weekends the US sportsbook market has seen.
