When recommending Washington DC sportsbooks, we closely examine several factors, including user experience, value, and reliability. These factors are important to consider. Among the necessary legislative changes are how we review sports betting sites in Capitol City.
We recommend DC sportsbooks based on the value you can get from betting offers for new users. We look at the maximum bonus you can receive if you follow the steps and the minimum bet needed to qualify to see which ones give you the most bang for your buck.
We also consider the ease of redeeming an offer, taking into account terms and conditions and bonus bet expiration windows.
We look to ensure that our recommended sites have secure and trustworthy payment methods available. When funding your accounts, you want to use fast, reliable, and convenient methods—ideally, ones you already use daily.
The most common ones in Washington D.C. include e-Checks, PayPal, Play+ and other gift cards, VISA credit/debit, Mastercard credit/debit, Discover credit/debit, Apple Pay, bank wire transfer, Venmo, e-Tranfers, PayNearMe, and Trustly online banking. You can also deposit or withdraw via betting counters located at retail sportsbooks.
When you have a problem with your betting account or funds, you need to feel confident that you can quickly get the answers you need. That's why we recommend reliable customer service as an essential part of any DC sportsbook.
The most common types include live chat, email, and dedicated social media accounts. Sometimes, you can leave a voicemail or request a callback by phone.
Every sportsbook we review and recommend is properly licensed within the District of Columbia's Office of Lottery and Gaming. The OLG oversees licensees to ensure they follow proper security and legal measures. You won't get that assurance using offshore platforms, so we never recommend betting with those sites.
In addition to our own experience, we take a close look at what users are saying in reviews of USA betting apps on the App Store and Google Play Store, as well as Yelp, TripAdvisor, and other reputable review sites.
We watch for user feedback on payout speed, customer support responsiveness, navigation, and overall usability.
It's essential to compare odds across DC sportsbooks to make sure you're getting the best price for the market you want to bet on. That's what we do when evaluating our top sites.
We recommend signing up with multiple platforms in D.C. so that you have the full menu of betting odds and options available at any given time.
Signing up for a new account with DC sportsbooks is very easy. Follow the prompts, and you will place your first bet in a matter of minutes.
You can confidently open your account with any approved Washington DC sportsbook.

Washington DC City Council Act B22-0944 officially passed in May 2019, legalizing sports betting in the District, though online betting didn't launch until May 2020.
The Office of Lottery and Gaming, within the DC Lottery, oversees and manages sports betting in Washington. The OLG approves licenses, of which there are three different classes:
The D.C. 2025 fiscal year budget made up to seven online licenses possible, five of which are now claimed by BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, Fanatics, and FanDuel.
From 2020 to 2024, GambetDC, powered by Intralot, was the exclusive sports betting provider of the DC Lottery, which broadly oversees Washington, DC sports betting. However, users intensely scrutinized the app for poor performance, and the DC Lottery decided to replace it with FanDuel.
That only lasted for a few short months. When the D.C. Council's $21M budget was approved in June of 2024, it allowed for an expansion of DC sports betting beyond just the Lottery's partner.
FanDuel resigned from its contract with the DC Lottery and launched instead through its partnership with Audi Field.
Of course, you can still bet in person at one of the following retail Washington DC sportsbooks:
| Name | License No. | Address |
|---|---|---|
| BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park | SW21CLA0002 | 1500 S. Capitol St. SE Washington, DC 20003 |
| Caesars Sportsbook at Capital One Arena | SW20CLA0003 | 601 F St. NW Washington, DC 20004 |
| Over Under Sportsbook Rooftop Lounge | SW22BJV0006 | 476 K St. NW Washington, DC 20001 |
| Grand Central Restaurant, Bar & Sportsbook | SW21CLB0001 | 2447 18th St. NW Washington, DC 20009 |
| Sports & Social DC | PSW23CLB0003 | 1314 U St. NW Washington, DC 20009 |
Before the operator's contract with the city expired, dozens of restaurants, liquor stores, and convenience stores had GambetDC betting kiosks.
D.C. may not technically have an NFL team within city limits, but they've got two historic franchises right next door—one is even named for the capital.
You can now bet on the Commanders and Ravens using NFL betting apps or websites from anywhere in Washington, D.C. All five available DC sportsbooks have great NFL betting. However, Fanatics gets a leg up for actually being inside Commanders Field, while FanDuel is an official partner of Washington's pro team.

Conversely, MLB is intimately connected to downtown DC, thanks to the Washington Nationals. Nationals Park is on the waterfront, just a few miles from the White House and Capitol Hill.
Previously, Nationals Park was one of only a few places where you could bet on baseball, but not anymore. Now you have your choice of MLB sites in D.C.
BetMGM certainly has the upper hand here as the National's official betting partner with a retail sportsbook inside the park.
You could argue that DC is a basketball city with teams competing in the NBA, WNBA, and the Big East NCAA conference.
While the Wizards have struggled as of late, they did win the NBA Finals as the Washington Bullets in 1977-78.
On the other hand, the Mystics have had more success in the last few years, winning the WNBA Finals in 2019. Check WNBA betting sites for the latest odds on the Mystics.
Being an official partner of both pro basketball teams in DC, Caesars is a good place to start.
The Washington Capitals, led by the legendary Alex Ovechkin, won the Stanley Cup Finals in 2017-18. You can bet on Capitals games and future odds with NHL betting sites anywhere in DC. However, Caesars makes for a unique option, thanks to its in-arena retail sportsbook.

MLS soccer has been in DC the entire time the league has existed. DC United is a founding member and has won the MLS Cup four times in its 30-year history.
The Washington Spirit continues the W-League DC United Women's team. They began playing in the NWSL in 2013 and won the franchise's first NWSL Championship in 2021.
Fanatics and DraftKings certainly lead the way in DC, as they are official United (DraftKings) and Spirit (Fanatics) partners. With a retail sportsbook inside the home arena of the United and Spirit, FanDuel is another top option.

Georgetown dominated the NCAA in the 1980s, winning the national championship in 1983-84, and had some good runs in the early 2000s.
It's important to note that betting on teams within the district, like Georgetown or Howard, is not allowed. Betting is also not permitted on games within district limits.

Washington D.C., like all legal sports betting states, takes responsible gambling very seriously. Gambling is only meant to be a source of entertainment, and it's important to know when to stop. If you find that you can't, the District and its sportsbook partners are here to help.
The Office of Lottery and Gaming has a list of resources you can access at any time, including the National Council on Problem Gambling helpline at 1-800-522-4700. The OLG also keeps a city-specific Self-Exclusion List, which you can apply to join any time. You'll be excluded from both online and in-person gambling throughout the District.
You can join national online forums such as Gamblers Anonymous, Gam-Anon, and GamTalk.
Within DC sportsbooks' apps or sites, you can access the following resources:
Some DC betting sites go the extra mile with tools meant to make it easy to gamble responsibly. DraftKings, for example, allows you to access your limit history so you can keep yourself in check. FanDuel offers "Reality Check" and Player Activity Statements so you can look at your entire gambling log and make sure you're staying within your means.
