In 2019, Indiana became the 10th state to legalize sports betting.
House Bill 1015 designated the Indiana Gaming Commission to regulate and adopt rules for sports betting. Indiana's legal betting age is 21, and bettors must be physically in the state to place a sports wager. The bill allows each land-based casino to have up to three partnerships (skins) with online sportsbooks.
The tax rate for sports betting operators remains at 9.5%, with most of the revenue allocated to the state's general fund.
Betting is allowed on league drafts for the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and WNBA. However, it is not permitted at high school or youth sporting events. Indiana law prohibits sports betting by student-athletes, NCAA staff, athletics department staff, game officials, and student managers and trainers.
The bill applies only to sports betting and does not allow any Indiana online casinos yet.
