Adam Caplan's NFL Daily Fantasy Top Plays for Week 11

We’re just four weeks from the fantasy football playoffs in season-long leagues and there are some really good matchups this week for fantasy players in any type of league.

You’ll notice the trend that I’m using below is one that has done well this season. I continue to recommend players from better than average passing teams where those players will be in games in which their team will be playing from behind (see the Buccaneers offense most weeks).

So, with that, welcome to Week 11!

Week 11 Quarterback Best Bet

Carson Wentz = $7,700 at FanDuel

Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints

I wasn’t kidding when I said last week that the Buccaneers would be playing from behind against

While the third-year signal caller has done a really nice job of rebounding from last year’s horrific knee injury, Wentz is down a bit in fantasy production (mostly in TD passes per game).

Some of the issues stem from injuries at wide receiver. The Eagles wanted to take more “shot plays” this season, but the passing game has mostly been compressed.

That hasn’t kept Wentz from being successful this season, but the Eagles are doing as well on offense especially in areas where they were great last season (especially in the red zone and on third down).

The good news is that the Saints defense is giving up a lot of production to opposing quarterbacks lately (1,232 yards and 8 TDs over their last four games).

The Eagles are almost a lock to be playing from behind in this game and they make no commitment to run the ball, so look for Wentz to put the ball up at least 40 times in this game.

Week 11 Running Back Best Bet

David Johnson = $7,900 at FanDuel

Matchup: Arizona Cardinals vs. Oakland Raiders

Those in season-long leagues have been somewhat suffering with Johnson on their teams this season. However, he hasn’t been close to being a bust.

Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks fired OC Mike McCoy and replaced him with QB coach Byron Leftwich. The former NFL quarterback said he wanted to get Johnson more involved going forward and that certainly has been the case in the two games that Leftwich has called plays.

The fourth-year back has 11 receptions over his last two games and he happens to be going up against a really bad defense this week. The Raiders gave up over 5.1 yards per carry and over 9 yards per catch over their last four games, which really make this matchup favorable for Johnson.

Week 11 Wide Receiver Best Bets

Alshon Jeffery = $7,300 at FanDuel

Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints

After his fast start coming back from a serious shoulder surgery, this talented pass catcher has slowed down a bit with no TD catches over his last two games.

However, you can almost count on the Eagles playing from behind in this game against the virtually unstoppable Saints offense on Sunday. And because of that, the seventh-year pass catcher should get plenty of targets.

What also should help Jeffery’s cause this week is that the New Orleans defense is ranked worst in the NFL against opposing wide receivers over their last four games.

Over that time frame they’ve given up 60 receptions (15 per game), 898 yards (224.50 per game), and nearly 15 yards per catch. And wide receivers are catching about 69% of the passes thrown their way against this defense, so it’s a good week to use Jeffery in DFS or in season-long leagues.

Tre’Quan Smith = $4,900 at FanDuel

Matchup: New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The rookie, despite the obviously good matchup by the numbers against the Bengals, came up with zero fantasy points last week. What made Smith’s performance even more disappointing is that he would up playing more snaps than any of the Saints wide receivers.

As I said earlier in this piece, don’t let a bad performance sway you. The Eagles defense is dealing with major injury issues at cornerback and they’ll be facing one of the NFL’s best passing games.

They will be without at least two of their top-three cornerbacks, and you can count on Saints head coach Sean Payton to take advantage of that obvious advantageous matchup. And starting FS Rodney Mceod is on IR.

If you’re struggling for a third fantasy receiver this week, Smith is worth a shot.

Week 11 Tight End Best Bet

Vance McDonald = $5,500 at FanDuel

Matchup: Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Jaguars

The “Vanimal” has been a surprisingly productive fantasy tight end this season. While he’s not been great every week, he has had more of his share of good fantasy performances.

The sixth-year pro has already tied a career-high in catches in a season with 30 and has surpassed his best season yardage total. McDonald will be facing a Jaguars defense which is ranked third-worst against opposing tight end over their last four games.

They’re giving up over 14 yards per catch and over a TD catch over those four games.

Week 11 Flex Best Bet

Kerryon Johnson = $6,200 at FanDuel

Matchup: Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers

On paper, last week’s matchup on the road against the division rival Bears looked bad for the rookie back. Plus, veteran RB Theo Riddick has returned from his knee injury and is back as the team’s primary third down player.

However, Johnson still had 20 touches and two total TDs.

I came into the season very impressed with Johnson, and he has been one of the surprises for fantasy owners. Plus, he quickly took over as the Lions feature back.

While the matchup looks tough by the numbers (Panthers defense third best against opposing running backs over last 4 weeks), Johnson gets it done for fantasy owners most weeks due to his versatility.

I have him listed as a flex player, as I’m not expecting huge numbers from him, but good enough for you to start him in this role.
