The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is underway, which means Las Vegas will be humming with activity for the next six weeks. As it was in 2022, two casinos, Paris and Horseshoe, will host the series.

That means 95 WSOP bracelet events will be spread across two venues equipped to hold thousands of players. Having the capacity to house thousands of players could be more important than ever because WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart believes records will be broken this summer.

He doesn’t just believe it’s possible. He’s virtually guaranteeing it. Stewart spoke during an online press conference last week and told reporters that provisions are in place to put this year’s attendance figures above last year’s.

Plans in Place to Make this the Biggest Ever WSOP

For context, last year’s WSOP Main Event was 1% short of beating the all-time attendance record. The 2006 WSOP Main Event, which Jamie Gold won, still stands as the biggest ever with 8,773 entrants. Last year’s Big Dance attracted 8,663 players and, when the dancing was done, Espen Jorstad had his hand raised.

Coming tantalizingly close to breaking the record in 2022 has prompted the WSOP and its partner, GGPoker, to offer more satellites and incentives than ever before. Indeed, as Stewart explained, “plans” are in place to ensure there’s enough “growth” to close the 1% gap this year.

Poker is a strong place right now, so breaking the WSOP Main Event record is more than possible. However, as alluring and impressive as the $10,000 World Championship is, it’s not the only tournament in town. There are 95 bracelet events taking place at Paris and Horseshoe, and 27 online bracelet events for those with access to WSOP.com in New Jersey, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Michigan
