Panthers Looking to Bounce Back

Best NHL Bets Today: Aleksander Barkov Over 2.5 shots on goal at -115 via Bet365 Sportsbook

Throughout the playoffs, the Panthers have consistently defied the odds as underdogs and risen to the occasion. In Saturday's game, they showed signs of doing so again when Eric Staal scored a shorthanded goal to give his team an early lead.

However, despite controlling over 57% of Expected Goals at 5-on-5 in the first period, the Panthers couldn't maintain their advantage. They made a strong push to tie the game 2-2 before the end of the second period, but in the third period, they were overwhelmed as the Golden Knights outscored them 3-0 and controlled over 66% of Expected Goals.

The Panthers also ended the game with 46 penalty minutes, compared to just 18 for Vegas. They failed to convert on their three power-play opportunities, facing a penalty kill unit that has struggled in the playoffs. On the other hand, the Golden Knights capitalized twice on their seven power-play chances. However, some of the physical play and penalties from the Panthers might have been aimed at setting a tone for the rest of the series, considering that Vegas has also taken their fair share of penalties in the postseason.

Sergei Bobrovsky allowed four goals on Saturday, which is the most he has given up since Game 6 of the first round against Boston (where he allowed five goals). The Golden Knights successfully created traffic in front of him, making it difficult for Bobrovsky to see shots. However, this is the first time in weeks that Bobrovsky hasn't played a significant role in providing solutions for the Panthers. He is expected to bounce back in Game 2 as he regains his rhythm following Florida's 10-day layoff.

Golden Knights Pose Offensive Threat

Best NHL Bets Today: Mark Stone to Score Anytime @ +210 via Bet365 Sportsbook

Five years after their remarkable first trip to the Stanley Cup Final during their inaugural season, the Golden Knights demonstrated their readiness and composure as they returned to the grand stage on Saturday.

Their offense operated at full throttle, their special teams executed flawlessly, and Adin Hill delivered yet another exceptional performance in the net. Hill's remarkable goal-line stop, which may have set the tone for the victory, was undoubtedly the highlight of the night.

The Golden Knights also embody the notion that luck plays a part in success. PDO, a statistic that represents luck in the unpredictable game of hockey, currently stands at 1.065 for the Golden Knights, the highest in this year's playoffs. In Saturday's game, they were even luckier than usual with a PDO of 1.095. Vegas has maintained this fortunate trend throughout the postseason, but statistical probability suggests that regression may occur at some point.

Having scored 11 goals in their last two games, the Golden Knights now boast an impressive average of 3.72 goals per game in the playoffs, compared to Florida's 3.06. Defensively, Vegas has been outstanding, allowing just 2.61 goals against per game, while the Panthers sit at 2.82.
