The College World Series has eight teams in place. Stanford and Tennessee clinched spots late Monday night. This sets up some impressive early matchups in the double-elimination phase. After that, the winners from the two brackets face off in a best-of-three final. 

Among the “unranked” teams, there are Oral Roberts and TCU, who square off first on Friday afternoon. Tennessee is the third, but it was the No. 1 overall last year. Wake Forest carries the expectations and is the favorite. The Demon Deacons were the top team in the nation throughout most of the regular season. They quickly slashed past Alabama in the postseason, including a 22-5 rout in the super regionals.

This team has its fair share of depth, but Rhett Lowder and Brock Wilson lead it. Lowder is among the best starting pitchers in the nation, while Wilson leads Wake Forest from the hot corner. The Demon Deacons figure to add to their win totals in Omaha.

Why You Should Bet on LSU

LSU is one of three SEC teams in the College World Series this year. The Tigers punched their 18th appearance by sweeping Kentucky. Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes anchor the LSU squad and figure to go 1-2 in the MLB Draft. 

LSU last tasted college immortality in 2009. The Tigers have been three times since they, but haven't been able to get another title. However, if a team can find a way to get to the Final and beyond, it may be LSU.

Why You Should Bet on Florida

The Florida Gators won 50 games and found its way once more into the College World Series. This time, Florida subdued SEC-rival South Carolina to make the “Final Eight.” It is a team that features far more than top-five prospect Wyatt Langford. 

Kevin O’Sullivan has this team looking for its first national title since 2017. The second-ranked team in college baseball featured six batters with an OPS over .900. Florida showed in the brackets it can also deliver on pitching. 

Why You Should Bet on Oral Roberts

People love the long shot, and Oral Roberts undoubtedly qualifies. The Golden Eagles got past Oregon in three challenging games, even after being down to their last out. It wasn't easy, but Oral Roberts secured its first College World Series spot in nearly 40 years. 

Jonah Cox and Matt Hogan are two reasons Oral Roberts could be tough in the brackets. TCU and other teams could find out the hard way, much like the Ducks. This squad is another team that can cause a few twists.

Why You Should Bet on Virginia

Virginia is a team that can pile on some runs when pushed. The No. 7 Cavaliers got edged to the brink by ACC-rival Duke. Then, Virginia turned on the offense and scored 26 runs in two games to advance to the College World Series. 

There are some concerns with pitching and defense. That much is true. However, Virginia does draw into the “easier bracket,” with only Florida as a ranked foe. This is a Cavaliers squad that could bash their way onward.

Why You Should Bet on TCU

If it is all about timing, then TCU has this market cornered. The Horned Frogs went 13-11 in the Big 12 and looked eliminated. However, TCU rose from the ashes with an 11-game winning streak to advance to the College World Series. 

Balance has been the staple of this Kirk Saarloos squad. Everyone knows Brayden Taylor, but their depth is why the Horned Frogs advanced to this point for the first time since 2017.

Why You Should Bet on Stanford

Stanford needed a little of everything, including a ball lost in the lights against Texas, to advance to the College World Series. While everyone wants to talk about Quinn Matthews and his 156-pitch performance in Game 2, the Cardinal and their resilience in Game 3 proved most vital.

Likely first-round pick Tommy Troy keys Stanford’s offense. Troy hit .397 on the season and has not shied away from the limelight in the postseason. Could Stanford’s heroics start something bigger?

Why You Should Bet on Tennessee

The Tennessee Volunteers should have been here last year. They were the best team overall, then got eliminated by Notre Dame. What did the Volunteers learn? Simply that bashing and crashing was not the answer.

Pitching helped Tennessee advance past Southern Mississippi in three rough games. The Volunteers will need that, along with Maui Ahuna and Jared Dickey’s offensive might. Tennessee faces three of the best eight teams in their bracket but can beat all three.

College World Series Best Bet

Again,  from the beginning of the year, the feeling was an SEC team could and should win the national championship. It boils down to which one of the three, and this is more challenging than anyone believes. This is because Florida is supposedly in the less-challenging bracket. 

However, if any team can advance past Wake Forest, it might be LSU. The Tigers showed their claws against Kentucky, as both games were not much of a contest. They are the one team who has been here so many times before. Experience may be kinder as they are our best bet to add to their trophy case for the first time since 2009.
