Iowa Casino Revenue Falls 13.1% To $131.4 Million In August
Iowa's 19 licensed casinos generated $131.4 million in adjusted gross revenue in August, down 13.1% from the same month last year, according to figures published by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC).
The IRGC's August 2026 gaming revenue report shows slot machines generated $119.7 million of the total, down 12.4% year-on-year, while table games brought in $11.7 million, down 19.7%.
Only two of Iowa's 19 casinos posted year-on-year gains: Bally's Marquette rose 31.5% to $2.5 million, and Wild Rose Clinton was up 7.1% to $2.9 million.
Where The Declines Were Sharpest
Rhythm City Casino recorded the steepest year-on-year drop, falling 26.6% to $7.5 million, followed by Great River Casino Resort, down 23.5% to $3.1 million, and Grand Falls Casino Resort, down 22.5% to $6.6 million.
The state's largest venues still generated the most revenue in absolute terms: Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino led the field with $20.1 million, ahead of Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs ($12.4 million), Ameristar II ($11.3 million) and Riverside Casino and Golf Resort ($10 million).
Part Of A Wider State Trend
The August figures follow a similar year-on-year decline in July, when the IRGC's own data showed the state's casinos generated $136.1 million, down 6% from July 2025.
Iowa's commercial casino market, regulated entirely on land and via state-licensed retail sportsbooks and online betting sites, has shown softer year-on-year comparisons throughout much of 2026, following a stronger 2025.
How August Compares To The Rest Of 2026
The August total follows a similar year-on-year dip in July, when the IRGC's own figures show Iowa's 19 casinos generated $136.1 million in adjusted gross revenue, with slots contributing $123 million and table games $13.1 million.
Admissions were also lower in August at 1.37 million compared with 1.41 million in July, suggesting the year-on-year softness reflects both lower spend per visit and fewer overall visits rather than a single one-off factor.
Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, the state's largest venue by revenue, again led the market's admissions total in August at over 116,000 visits.

How Iowa Regulates Its Casino Market
The IRGC holds full statutory jurisdiction over all gambling operations in Iowa under Iowa Code Chapter 99F, and also licenses sports wagering through the same casino operators rather than as a separate category: under section 99F.7A, only entities already licensed to run a casino facility can hold a sports wagering license, either for retail operations on-site or as an advance deposit operator offering online betting.
That means the monthly adjusted gross revenue figures the commission publishes, including August's $131.4 million total, capture Iowa's entire regulated gambling market rather than casino floor revenue alone.
