Massachusetts Casino Revenue Tops $100 Million In August
Massachusetts' three commercial casinos generated a combined $101.9 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in August 2026, according to the latest monthly revenue report published by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC).
The figure, drawn from the MGC's own August 2026 revenue report, marks the first time combined casino GGR has cleared the $100 million mark since earlier in the year, with table games and slots both contributing to the total.
Casino-By-Casino Breakdown
Encore Boston Harbor, the state's largest casino, generated $62.9 million in combined table and slots GGR for the month, made up of $24.4 million from table games and $38.5 million from slot machines. The casino, taxed at 25% on gaming revenue, contributed $15.7 million in tax to the state.
MGM Springfield reported $23.9 million in GGR (table games $4.4 million, slots $19.5 million), also taxed at 25%, for a tax contribution of $5.97 million.
Plainridge Park Casino, the state's slots-only Category 2 facility, posted $15.2 million in slots GGR. Because slots parlors are taxed at a higher 49% rate than the resort casinos' 25%, Plainridge's single-month tax contribution of $7.4 million was not far behind MGM Springfield's, despite lower overall revenue.
Sports Betting Adds To The Total
Alongside casino gaming, the MGC's report shows Massachusetts' sports wagering operators generated a combined $93.7 million in taxable revenue for August across retail and online licensees, adding a further $18.7 million in tax collected.
Combined with casino GGR, total taxable gaming revenue for the month reached $149 million, with $38.5 million in total taxes collected across both verticals.
Under state law, retail sportsbooks are taxed at 15% of gross sports betting revenue while online operators, including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, Fanatics, Bally Bet and theScore Bet, are taxed at 20%.
Online Sportsbooks Drive Wagering Volume
Among the state's online sportsbook licensees, DraftKings recorded $275.1 million in wagers settled for the month, the largest volume of any operator, followed by FanDuel at $144.5 million and Fanatics at $62.3 million.
BetMGM took $48.8 million in wagers, Caesars Sportsbook $18.6 million, theScore Bet $14.3 million and Bally Bet $2.9 million, according to the MGC's operator-level breakdown.
Hold rates varied significantly by operator for the month, ranging from Caesars Sportsbook's 6.38% up to theScore Bet's 9.35%, reflecting differences in bet mix and promotional structure across the state's online market.
