As soccer continues to grow in the U.S., so do the stadiums. Moreover, with Major League Soccer constantly adding teams to its roster each year, it means fans across the 50 states have new stadiums to visit with more fans getting brought into the action than ever in 2023.

We rank the MLS soccer-only stadiums. Then we rank them from largest to smallest overall.

Major League Soccer Stadiums: Largest to Smallest Overall

Atlanta United

As the 2018 MLS Cup winners and the U.S. Open Cup winners a year later, Atlanta United has been one of the most successful sides in the U.S. since joining the MLS in 2017.

Atlanta plays at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which it shares with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL. The stadium hosted Super Bowl LIII in 2019 and this past season's college football national semifinal between Ohio State and Georgia.

Opened in August 2017 as a replacement for the Georgia Dome, its capacity is 71,000 for football games and 42,500 for soccer games.

Charlotte FC

Charlotte plays its games at the Bank of America Stadium and shares the stadium with the Carolina Panthers. The stadium is one of the oldest in the MLS after opening in 1966 as the Ericsson Stadium.

The capacity is 74,867, but Charlotte has only 38,000 seats for MLS games.

Seattle Sounders FC

Lumen Field is one of the most famous stadiums in North America and is home to both the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Sounders.

The capacity is 68,740 for NFL games and 37,722 for soccer games, making it one of the biggest MLS stadiums. Only Charlotte and Atlanta United have larger capacities.

Nashville

Nashville SC plays its games at the 30,000-seater soccer-specific stadium, GEODIS Park.

Construction started on GEODIS Park in 2016 and was delayed year after year until it opened on May 1, 2022.

New York City

Similarly to the Revs, New York City doesn't have its own stadium. It shares a venue with a famous team from another sport and currently calls Yankee Stadium home.

It is also the only stadium in the country that is home to an MLB and an MLS team, with 28,743 able to get into the Yankee Stadium for NYCFC games, and it is expandable to 47,309. 

NYCFC intends to leave Yankee Stadium and move to the New York City FC Stadium in Willets Point, but this is not scheduled to be completed until 2027.

Toronto

BMO Field has been the home stadium for Toronto FC since 2007 and is one of the few stadiums in North America that continues to get renovations every few years.

It is also the current home to the Canada men's national soccer team and will be one of the two grounds in Canada to host matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The capacity for soccer games is 27,980.

LA Galaxy

One of the most famous and oldest MLS grounds is the Dignity Health Sports Park, home to L.A. Galaxy. 

Dignity Health Sports Park has a 27,000 seating capacity as a multi-use sports complex. 

FC Cincinnati

TQL Stadium in Cincinnati is home to FC Cincinnati after it played at Nippert Stadium, while construction continued when it joined the MLS.

The stadium officially opened on May 16, 2021, and Cincinnati has played there ever since in one of the few soccer-specific stadiums in the U.S. with a capacity of 26,000.

Orlando City

Orlando City SC plays at the Exploria Stadium, which has also been used as a host venue for the U.S. men's and women's national teams.

Exploria Stadium's capacity is 25,500.

Portland Timbers

Providence Park is, by a distance, the oldest stadium on this list, as it has existed in rudimentary form since 1893 and as a completed stadium since 1926. 

Providence Park's capacity is 25,218 and is also the oldest facility configured as a soccer-specific stadium for use by an MLS team, with the Portland Timbers playing its first match here in 1975.

New York Red Bulls

Another soccer-specific stadium is the Red Bull Arena which is home to the New York Red Bulls.

Red Bull Arena is another stadium home to an NWSL and an MLS team, as Gotham FC plays here, too.

The sixth-largest soccer-specific stadium in the U.S., Red Bull Arena seats 25,000.

Chicago Fire

As one of the oldest teams in the MLS, Chicago Fire has been playing at Soldier Field for a total of nine years.

Chicago played its games at Soldier Field from 1998-2005 and returned to the stadium in 2020.

As the smallest stadium in the NFL, Soldier Field has a football capacity of 61,500. It is also the oldest stadium in both the NFL and MLS. For soccer games, however, the capacity goes down to 24,995.

St. Louis City

St. Louis City is a new expansion team in the MLS. It will play its games at Citypark. 

For years, it was one of the best and biggest stadiums in the USL, and it now seats 22,500 in the Downtown West neighborhood of St. Louis in preparation for the 2023 MLS season.

Vancouver Whitecaps

BC Place opened up 40 years ago to make it one of the oldest stadiums in the U.S. that gets used for Major League Soccer games and has a capacity of 22,120.

The Vancouver Whitecaps have played here since 2011, and it was the main stadium for the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2010 Paralympics. It will also host a few games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Houston Dynamo

PNC Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Texas that is the Dynamo's home.

Stadium capacity is 22,039 and PNC Stadium is home to the NWSL side, Houston Dash, and it hosted a few games at the inaugural rugby sevens Women's Sevens World Series in 2013.

Los Angeles

As one of the few soccer-specific stadiums on the West Coast, the Banc of California Stadium opened up in 2018 as the home for the Los Angeles FC, and Angel City FC in the NWSL.

The stadium, which holds 22,000, hosted the most recent MLS Cup final that, ironically, LAFC won.

Austin

Q2 Stadium is one of the most recent stadiums in the MLS after the first event on June 16, 2021.

The stadium capacity is 20,738 for Austin soccer games.

FC Dallas

Dallas also has a soccer stadium with a small capacity in contrast to its vast popularity, with only 20,500 getting into the Toyota Stadium.

Toyota Stadium is also home to the National Soccer Hall of Fame, which opened in 2018.

Columbus Crew

The Columbus Crew is one of the founding members of the MLS and plays its games at the Lower.com Field. The stadium replaced the club's previous home, the Historic Crew Stadium, and it opened in 2021 at a cost of $314 million. 

Lower.com field might be the most modern stadium in the MLS. It seats 20,371 and includes 30 suites and 1,900 club seats.

Real Salt Lake

America First Field opened in 2008 as the home of Real Salt Lake and seats 20,213 for soccer games. 

The stadium has also hosted international games such as the 2009 MLS All-Star Game, the 2013 U.S Open Cup final, and games in the 2011 CONCACAF Champions League and the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

D.C. United

Audi Field is another soccer-specific stadium in the MLS. It is also one of the only stadiums in the U.S. that fields both states' professional soccer teams, as both the Washington Spirit and D.C. United play here.

The stadium seats 20,000 people after the ground-breaking ceremony in February 2017, with construction finishing a year later in July.

New England Revolution

Technically speaking, Gillette Stadium is one of the most famous and biggest MLS stadiums, with a total capacity of 65,878. However, for the New England Revolution, it only has a capacity of 20,000 as it shares its stadium with the NFL's New England Patriots.

Because of its fame with the Patriots, Gillette Stadium is set to host several matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 

Montreal

Saputo Stadium is the second-largest soccer-specific stadium in Canada after the BMO Field, with a capacity of 19,619. It broke ground in April 2007 and opened a year later, with an expansion in 2012. 

Montreal has played here since 2012, with the Canada men's national soccer team playing at the Saputo Stadium from 2008-11.

Minnesota United

Allianz Field is one of the many soccer stadiums worldwide sponsored by Allianz.

It has been the home soccer stadium for Minnesota United since 2019 and has a capacity of 19,400.

Philadelphia Union

The Philadelphia Union plays at Subaru Park, which opened in 2010 in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Subaru Park was designed as an initial step for economic development on the Delaware River waterfront and now gets used regularly for entertainment shows like concerts. It has a capacity of 18,500.

Sporting Kansas City

Children's Mercy Park opened in 2011 and has a seating capacity of 18,467 for Sporting Kansas City games.

It has also hosted a bunch of events through the years and is the only stadium to host an MLS All-Star Game, a United States men's national soccer team game, and an MLS Cup game in the same year in 2013.

Colorado Rapids

Dick's Sporting Goods Park, known to locals as DSG Park, is home to the Colorado Rapids.

Built in 2007, Dick's Sporting Goods Park is a small soccer stadium, with just 18,061 for MLS games.

Inter Miami

Inter Miami is one of the latest sides to join the MLS, and it currently plays at DRV PNK Stadium. It is a soccer-specific stadium in Fort Lauderdale that seats 18,000. 

The stadium is only an interim venue for Inter Miami, slated to play at the proposed Freedom Park in 2025.

San Jose Earthquakes

PayPal Park is the home for the San Jose Earthquakes after opening in February 2015 with a capacity of 18,000. 

The stadium features a bar behind the northeast goal that houses the largest outdoor bar in North America.
