New Orleans To Tie Miami With 11 Super Bowls

On Monday, Ronnie Jones, former chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, congratulated Las Vegas for “proving to be a worthy host city” for the Super Bowl.

“Next up is New Orleans,” Jones wrote on LinkedIn.

New Orleans has hosted 10 Super Bowl games, including at Tulane Stadium and the Superdome. The most recent was at the Superdome in 2013, with Baltimore defeating San Francisco, 34-31. Tulane Stadium has since been demolished.

The game on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium just west of the Las Vegas Strip was the first ever in Southern Nevada.

Jones said Las Vegas and New Orleans are “destination cities welcoming millions of visitors each year but that’s where the comparison ends.”

“The two cities couldn’t be more different—the vibe, the culture, the history and architecture, the cuisine and even the music scenes—all are very different one from the other,” he wrote. “And that’s OK because all 17 host cities have showcased their uniqueness for the world to see.”

Jones added that “one influential group” is fond of New Orleans — the 32 NFL owners — which is why the Crescent City will host the 2025 Super Bowl.

“In so doing it will tie with Miami for the number of games hosted at 11,” Jones wrote.

2024 Winning Props

Back in Las Vegas, VSiN’s Bill Adee noted in his morning email newsletter on Monday that the 2024 Super Bowl produced several interesting prop bet winners, including the following.

Player to score first TD: Christian McCaffrey (+400)

This is always one of the most-bet proposition wagers every Super Bowl and this year was no different. Neither team scored in the first quarter and the first score was a field goal on the second play of the second quarter, but we didn’t actually get our first touchdown until 4:23 left in the first half when Christian McCaffrey cashed as the 4-1 favorite on a 21-yard touchdown pass from WR Jauan Jennings. In addition, “Over 2.5 Players to Attempt a Pass” also cashed at +145 and “Players Other Than QB to Throw TD Pass” at around 35-1.

Will there be Overtime: Yes (+900)

This has long been considered one of the biggest sucker bets in prop betting history as there wasn’t an overtime in the first 50 Super Bowls until the Patriots’ epic comeback in Super Bowl LI when they rallied from the infamous 28-3 deficit to force OT and win 34-28 with an opening TD drive to also cover the spread. So, those bettors finally cashed that year and now cash just seven years later when Butker booted a 29-yard field goal to tie the game at 19-19 with :03 left in regulation.
