Three Accused Of Skimming Almost $300,000 From Las Vegas Casino

Three employees are accused of skimming $298,000 from a longtime downtown Las Vegas casino. The three face court dates in the coming weeks. 

According to KLAS-TV, the three are accused of stealing from Binion’s Gambling Hall on Fremont Street from 2022 until April 2025. 

The alleged skimming was revealed during an internal investigation into money stolen from cash registers at Binion’s Café, the news station reported.

As a result, Christina Carbonell faces an April 20 preliminary court hearing, according to KLAS-TV. Siraprapha Rattana is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 22, while Rommel Soriano is scheduled for a hearing on May 21.

Historic Casino Once Site of World Series of Poker

The casino named in the investigation, Binion’s, is a rebranded version of one of the most storied properties in the Las Vegas Valley.

That downtown casino, which Benny Binion operated as the Horseshoe for years, is no longer controlled by the Binion family, despite the name on the sign.

For decades, however, the casino was operated under the Horseshoe name by Binion, an outlaw Texas gambler who relocated to Las Vegas from Dallas in 1946.

These days, many people remember Binion for his role in initiating and hosting the World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe downtown. An earlier version of the poker tournament, the Texas Gamblers Reunion, took place in 1969 in Reno. Binion took that concept to the Horseshoe in Las Vegas and launched what would become the World Series of Poker.

Currently, the World Series of Poker is held at two Caesars Entertainment properties on the Las Vegas Strip, the Paris Las Vegas and the former Bally’s resort, now rebranded as the Horseshoe. The properties are connected by an interior walkway. This year’s WSOP runs from May 26-July 15.

Meanwhile, visitors to Las Vegas can find a bronze statue of Binion atop a horse on display at the South Point hotel-casino, 13 miles south of downtown.
