Underdog Joins Forces with McConnell Golf for the North Carolina Sports Betting Launch

Originally known for its daily fantasy sports offerings, Underdog has branched out into the realm of sports betting. Although they've been granted a sports betting license in Ohio since late 2022, they haven't started offering betting services just yet.
Underdog has struck a deal to provide and manage online gambling services at the Sedgefield Country Club, which is operated by McConnell Golf. This club, situated in Greensboro, North Carolina, is famous for hosting the Wyndham Championship as part of the PGA Tour.
Underdog mentioned that this partnership is a key step in their application for a sports betting North Carolina license. To gain approval for sports betting in the state, companies need to team up with a local sports team, league, or venue, and Underdog is making its move with this partnership.
“We’ve spent the last four years building our own technology so we can give sports fans in America new and different ways to enjoy the sports they love,” said Jeremy Levine, Underdog’s founder and co-CEO. “We’re excited to be able to offer that to North Carolinians and look forward to evolving the experience with them.”

Even though Underdog is a company with a rich history in fantasy sports, has been offering a variety of games like pick ‘em and best ball contests across 33 states and much of Canada. Lately, though, they've been turning their attention to sports betting.
They're looking at North Carolina as the first state where they'll launch their sports betting operations. Interestingly, they also secured a license from the Ohio Casino Control Commission in late 2022. Christian Anastasiadis, the COO of McConnell Golf, believes Underdog's approach aligns nicely with their own business goals.
A remarkable fact about Underdog is its roster of high-profile investors. It includes big names like Mark Cuban, Kevin Durant, Odell Beckham Jr., Nas, Future, and The Chainsmokers.
Offering its fantasy sports goods in 33 U.S. states and nearly all Canadian provinces and territories, Underdog is thrilled about this development in sports betting.
Upcoming Developments for North Carolina's Sports Betting Scene
By the suggested deadline of December 27, seven eager operators threw their hats in the ring, applying to be ready for action on the first day of North Carolina's sports betting launch. These hopefuls include bet365, BetMGM, DraftKings, ESPN BET North Carolina, Fanatics, FanDuel, and Underdog Sports, all awaiting the green light.
Caesars is also in the game, applying for a service provider license. They're no strangers to the scene, already running two casinos and sportsbooks in western North Carolina for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The EBCI and the Catawba Nation, who run a tribal casino in the state, are in the race for operator licenses.
The plan from the lottery suggests that North Carolina sports betting apps will be the first to go live on March 11. But it's not just about getting a license – these operators must also snag a certificate of compliance from the commission, proving they can stick to the state's rules and regulations.
