Mexican Football Federation Sues Kalshi Over Liga MX
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) filed a trademark-infringement lawsuit against Kalshi on September 22, 2026, naming Kalshi Inc. and Kalshiex LLC as defendants in a case docketed as No. 1:26-cv-08259 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, according to the federal court document.
The complaint, filed under the Lanham Act on federal-question jurisdiction, was brought by Martin Simon Krezalek of Blank Rome LLP on the federation's behalf and includes a jury demand. On September 23, the court assigned the case to U.S.
District Judge J. Paul Oetken, with Magistrate Judge Katharine H. Parker designated for referred matters, and electronic summonses were issued to both Kalshi entities.
A Months-Long Dispute Over Liga MX Listings
Kalshi's platform carries a dedicated Liga MX category within its soccer section just like you'd find on the leading sportsbooks, listing 13 markets at the time of filing: nine individual games, three futures and one league-leader market, pairing clubs by name such as Cruz Azul vs Toluca and Guadalajara vs Queretaro, with match dates of September 25-27, 2026.
The federation argues that using the Liga MX trademark and club names could mislead customers into believing Kalshi's markets are officially affiliated with the league or its clubs.
The dispute dates back to July 17, when FMF's general counsel sent Kalshi a cease-and-desist letter demanding it stop using the Liga MX logo, club logos and other protected trademarks.
Kalshi's Response
Kalshi responded four days later arguing its use qualified as nominative fair use; it removed some logos and added disclaimers but kept using the Liga MX and club names.
FMF, through Blank Rome, sent a further cease-and-desist letter on August 18 giving Kalshi 10 business days to comply, which Kalshi again rejected on September 1, according to the complaint.
In the lawsuit, FMF is asking the court for a temporary restraining order plus preliminary and permanent injunctions barring Kalshi from using the Liga MX trademark and club names, along with damages including profits it says Kalshi earned from the alleged infringement.
