Ryan Gold's NFL Gambling Suspension Appeal Set
Arizona Cardinals personnel executive Ryan Gold's appeal against his indefinite suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy was scheduled to be heard on September 23, 2026, according to his attorney, Mike Caspino.
The NFL suspended Gold, then the Cardinals' director of college scouting, in mid-July 2026. The league said its investigation found that Gold had provided confidential, non-public inside information regarding the Cardinals' 2026 draft selections before the picks were announced, and that he had also participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games.
The league has not disclosed who Gold allegedly provided the information to.
A Second State Investigation
Beyond the NFL's own inquiry and a related Arizona Department of Gaming investigation opened in July, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has separately opened an investigation into unusual betting patterns in the state connected to the case, a spokesperson confirmed. Gold has deep ties to Massachusetts, having grown up in Westwood, played and coached at UMass, and won back-to-back state football championships there.
The NFL's investigation centered partly on the Cardinals' selection of running back Jeremiyah Love with the third overall pick in April 2026 - a decision general manager Monti Ossenfort said was made "at the start" of draft week.
Sportsbooks reported unusual market movement on Love ahead of the pick: BetMGM opened him at 30-1 to go No. 3 in March, and he had shortened to 2-1 two days before the draft, with DraftKings reporting more bets and money wagered on Love to go third overall than on any other player.
Gold Denies Wrongdoing
"There is absolutely zero substance to the claims made against Ryan Gold," Caspino has said. "The NFL's investigation is so deeply flawed and so wrong. He will be vindicated." Caspino has said the parlay bets the league identified were $10 weekly wagers placed by Gold's wife with a group of high school friends, and that Gold himself was not involved.
What exactly the league's sports betting integrity monitors observed around the draft, when they flagged it, and what specifically triggered the investigation has not been made public. The NFL's statement on Gold's suspension does not reference any specific market by name.
