BetMGM Expands Footprint In Puerto Rico With Retail Sportsbook In Western Region
In a significant development for the Caribbean gaming industry, BetMGM has joined forces with Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort to announce a new retail sportsbook at the Mayaguez Resort and Casino in western Puerto Rico.
BetMGM entered into the partnership in San Juan three years ago. The new sportsbook at the Mayagüez Resort and Casino marks its first expansion to the west and represents the next level in establishing regulated betting in Puerto Rico.
According to a 2021 market-access agreement between Casino del Mar/La Concha and BetMGM, the operator committed to bringing both retail and mobile sports betting to the US territory.
It is the first of its kind outside the continental United States. Since then, the two companies developed a "blueprint" in San Juan, which now serves as the foundational model for this latest expansion.
The new facility is being constructed in Mayaguez under the supervision of the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission, which upholds regulations that highlight transparency, compliance, and player protection.
The venture is backed by Rolando Padua, president of Paulson Puerto Rico, and he says the move shows the company's "commitment to providing high-quality, responsible entertainment throughout the island."

Puerto Rico’s sports betting market, legalized following legislation in 2019, is still in its early stages, yet it is already attracting major international players.
