DraftKings Fined for Online Slot Game That Paid Zero Wins

The state of Connecticut has fined DraftKings and White Hat Gaming after an online slot game failed to pay any winners over one week in August 2023.

The fines totaled $22,500, including $19,000 for DraftKings. The game, Deal or No Deal Banker’s Bonanza, was advertised to pay out almost 95 cents for every dollar wagered. But over that week, with over 20,600 spins, it didn’t pay out once. 

A report detailed by CT Insider this week offered more details – 522 people played the game between Aug. 15 through Aug. 21 last year, wagering close to $24,000. This is according to a report by Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection Gaming Division.

As CT Insider detailed, the game appeared for the first time on DraftKings online casino last August, with dozens of 10-cent-minimum bets. Unlike similar games, none of the bets on the new game were landing.

An investigation by state gaming regulators uncovered a computer issue that was causing it not to generate wins for players.

In the end DraftKings returned $23,909 to its Connecticut online casino players who had gambled with the game. 

According to the state’s investigation, players were refunded without being told the reason why. It was also reported that Department of Consumer Protection was informed of the situation a week after the game was fixed and re-launched.
