Maryland Casinos Near $2 Billion Milestone As Gaming Revenue Surges In 2025

Maryland’s casinos enjoyed one of their strongest years on record in 2025, generating nearly $1.95 billion in gaming revenue and further underscoring the industry’s growing role in the state’s economy and its importance within Maryland’s budgeting process.

The state’s six land-based casinos - located in the Baltimore region, central Maryland, and on the Eastern Shore - benefited from continued consumer demand for slot machines and other casino games throughout the year.

From upscale resort-style properties that attract regional tourists to urban casinos catering to local players, gaming floors across the Old Line State remained resilient despite broader concerns about the economic outlook.

State officials say the revenue surge delivered clear public benefits. Hundreds of millions of dollars were directed to Maryland’s Education Trust Fund, supporting public schools, teacher programs and capital projects statewide.

Additional funds were allocated to local governments and communities through impact grants, workforce development initiatives, and small business support programs.

Casino revenue also continued to provide vital support for Maryland’s horse racing industry, helping preserve jobs and sustain a historic agricultural and entertainment sector.

Minority- and women-owned businesses benefited as well through targeted funding programs financed by gaming proceeds.

While annual results were overwhelmingly positive, monthly figures toward the end of the year showed some modest volatility.

Casino revenue dipped slightly in December compared with the prior year, a reminder that seasonal consumer spending patterns can fluctuate.

Analysts note, however, that this short-term softness had little effect on the industry’s strong overall performance.

Looking ahead, early indicators for fiscal 2026 suggest a market that is stabilizing rather than contracting.

Revenue through the first half of the fiscal year is tracking in line with last year’s pace, signaling resilience despite competition from online gaming, sports betting and neighboring gaming states.

Casino operators attribute their success to ongoing investment in the customer experience, including upgraded gaming floors, expanded dining and entertainment options, and a renewed focus on attracting both in-state players and visitors from surrounding regions.

Several properties also expanded non-gaming amenities in 2025, reinforcing their role as full-scale entertainment destinations rather than purely gambling venues.

State leaders continue to emphasize that responsible gaming is as important as revenue growth.

Maryland maintains funding for player education, treatment services, and self-exclusion programs, while also committing to transparency through the regular release of financial reports.

For communities across Maryland, the nearly $2bn generated in casino revenue represents more than a headline figure.

It reflects sustained economic activity, thousands of jobs and a significant source of public funding that benefits residents statewide.

As lawmakers debate future gaming policy and operators plan the next phase of growth, one conclusion is clear: Maryland’s casino industry is firmly established and here to stay.
