While there are six casinos in Maryland, only five of those six offer retail sports betting.

In March, as we wait for Maryland online sportsbooks to launch, the total retail sports betting handle saw an increase of 21.5%, going from $25,526,147 in February 2022 to $31,025,892.

Sports Betting Revenue and Taxes Go Way Up

March saw an increase unlike any other you’ll find where sports betting of any kind is offered, particularly among big retail sportsbooks such as BetMGM MD.

In terms of revenue (taxable win), Maryland went from $893,710 in February to $3,846,791 in March, marking a 330.4% increase.

With this massive rise, the state taxes also saw a massive influx, increasing by 328.7%. The taxes in February 2022 was $134,628 and went to $577,019 in March 2022.

These casinos in Maryland were instrumental in adding up to the $31,025,892 in March.

  • MGM National Harbor: $9,315,077

Sports Betting Update

Retail sports betting has been legal in Maryland since Dec. 9. However, we are still waiting for legal mobile sports betting in the state. When this happens, we can expect sportsbooks to be in the starting blocks to go live, like Betrivers Maryland.

As of March 17, a disparity study is underway, which is a massive part of the process of legalizing mobile sports betting. There is currently no timeline for when this will be complete.
