Oyo Las Vegas Halts Alcohol Sales For Second Time

The Oyo hotel-casino in Las Vegas has temporarily stopped selling alcohol, the second time in the past 12 months that the off-Strip property has done so. The pause took effect at 9 a.m. on Friday, 23 October, according to signage at the property, as the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The casino has not said why.
The property is at 115 East Tropicana Avenue, just off the Strip. The Review-Journal said the reason for the suspension was not clear on Friday. When a reporter asked an employee about it, the employee went to find a manager or supervisor but was told no one was available to speak to the press.
Liquor licensing in Clark County is overseen by the county's Department of Business License, which is closed on Fridays, so the paper could not immediately ask about the status of Oyo's liquor licence.
The reports we reviewed describe the pause as a halt to alcohol sales only. They do not say that gaming operations are affected. For readers planning a trip, our guide to Nevada casinos covers the state's regulated market.
The October 2025 Precedent
The Review-Journal notes that Oyo previously stopped selling alcohol in October 2025, for 10 days. That pause came after the company ended its management agreement with Highgate Hotels, which held the property's liquor licence.
The change left the casino unable to sell or serve alcohol until licensing arrangements could be addressed. The paper says it is the second time in 12 months that the budget property has put a hold on alcohol sales.
Why The Licence Holder Matters
The 2025 episode shows that a property's ability to serve alcohol can depend on who holds the liquor licence rather than who owns the building.
In that case the licence sat with the management company, so ending the agreement left Oyo without permission to sell or serve drinks until new arrangements were in place.
The Review-Journal does not say whether the latest suspension has a similar cause, and no explanation had been offered when it published.
A Rough Few Months For The Property
The pause follows a separate controversy in August. The Review-Journal reported that Booking.com and Expedia were investigating apparently fake hotel listings for a property called Palette Las Vegas that does not exist at the address on the listing, which is the site of the Oyo hotel-casino.
Oyo told the Daily Mail that the Palette listing went live too early by mistake, and described it as part of a broader dual-brand strategy for the different accommodation options at the property, in an account carried by the Daily Mail.
The open questions are why alcohol sales stopped this time, whether the licence itself is affected, and how long the suspension will last. Neither Oyo nor the county had addressed them in the reports we reviewed. We will update this story if the property or the county explains the suspension.
