US Online Casino Revenue Hits $1.02B in August 2026

The seven states with legal online casino markets combined for $1.02 billion in revenue in August, matching July's total and marking the sixth month this year that US iGaming revenue has surpassed $1 billion, according to Sports Betting Dime. 

The total was up 12.3% year-over-year from $910.8 million in August 2025. Pennsylvania led all states with $328.6 million, up 12.7% year-over-year, while Michigan followed with $303.0 million, up 15.1%. 

New Jersey generated $259.3 million, a 4.4% increase that was the state's lowest year-over-year growth rate on record. Connecticut ($68.7 million, up 17.2%), West Virginia ($40.9 million, up 24.7%) and Rhode Island ($6.6 million, up 36.5%) rounded out the seven-state total.

Pennsylvania Leads The Way

Pennsylvania widened its lead over Michigan for the top spot, with the gap between the two states growing from under $2 million in June to more than $25 million in August, even as Pennsylvania posted its second-best monthly total ever and Michigan posted its fifth-best.

Through eight months of 2026, the US iGaming industry has generated $8.07 billion in revenue, putting the year on pace to comfortably exceed 2025's totals as more states consider legalising online casino gaming.

Legal States

Legal online casino gaming in the US traces back to Delaware and New Jersey, which both launched regulated iGaming in November 2013 following a 2011 US Department of Justice opinion that reinterpreted the federal Wire Act as applying only to sports betting. 

Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, West Virginia and Rhode Island have since followed, bringing the total to seven states with fully licensed real-money online casino markets, while Nevada permits regulated online poker but not slots or table games. 

No new state has legalised iGaming since Rhode Island in 2023, despite repeated legislative pushes in states including Illinois, New York and Indiana.

Dominant Operators

DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars remain the dominant operators across the seven-state footprint, typically operating alongside a market-access partner such as a land-based casino or racetrack. 

Industry analysts have pointed to the growing gap between Pennsylvania's and Michigan's totals as evidence that market maturity, rather than population size, is increasingly driving revenue growth, with both states' online casino products now generating far more monthly revenue than their land-based casino counterparts.

Upward Trajectory

The seven-state online casino market has been on a steady upward trajectory since late 2024, when December monthly revenue hit a then-record $778.6 million, up from $582.2 million a year earlier. 

National monthly revenue has since climbed toward and briefly past the $1 billion mark, including $938.5 million in April 2026 and $925.3 million in June 2026, according to Complete iGaming and PlayUSA figures. 

The American Gaming Association separately reported that iGaming revenue jumped 33% year-over-year in May 2026 to help push total US commercial gaming revenue to a record $6.73 billion for that month, the best May performance on record, with year-to-date iGaming revenue on pace to approach or exceed $10 billion for the year after states generated $10.73 billion combined in 2025.
