Wisconsin Defends Tribal Online Sports Betting Law
Wisconsin is defending the state law that allows Native American tribes to offer online sports betting, arguing in a court filing that the group suing to overturn it lacks standing to do so.
The Brown County Taxpayers' Association filed suit in Waukesha County, arguing that Act 247 violates the Wisconsin Constitution and its 1993 amendment authorizing specific forms of gambling, according to WLUK Fox 11.
The group's suit contends the law singles out tribal members for a gambling benefit not available to others, based on race.

In its reply, Assistant Attorney General Colin Roth defended the law and maintained it is legal, with the state's affirmative defenses arguing the plaintiffs "fail to state a claim upon which relief can be granted" and "lack standing to pursue this action."
A scheduling conference in the case is set for Nov. 9. Wisconsin's tribes have offered retail and mobile sports betting under compacts with the state since 2021.
