The American Gambling Awards celebrates the exemplary work of the companies, organizations, executives and influencers who are working to responsibly develop the regulated online American casino and sports betting market.

Here are the finals for the Responsible Gaming Award, which serves as a testament to the industry’s commitment to creating a safe gaming environment.

All three of the nominees have displayed outstanding efforts in identifying problem gamblers early, preventing problem gamblers from transacting and ensuring players are dealt with in a fair and responsible manner.

Have a Game Plan Campaign from the American Gaming Association

The AGA launched the Have a Game Plan to educate operators, leagues, teams and media on responsible gambling practices.

The campaign features more than 30 partners, including the NHL, PGA Tour, DraftKings and BetMGM.

Through TV, radio and digital channels, the Have a Game Plan campaign has reached more than 60 million on social media and also has been included on over 20 regional sports networks, in addition to in-venue advertising at locations such as Capital One Arena, T-Mobile Arena, NASCAR tracks and the PGA TOUR.

The campaign has also had considerable media coverage through ESPN, CBS News, CBS Sports and more.

Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG)

The CCPG has successfully advocated for problem gambling funding and protections in the expansions of gambling legislation. Problem gambling messaging and limits on time and money spent were incorporated into the design and regulations in the Connecticut online gambling market.

The CCPG continues to operate Connecticut’s problem gambling helpline, where call volumes have increased exponentially.

Those who call the helpline can be directed to clinicians, treatment and prevention specialists and other parties.

The CCPG also launched a statewide campaign called Responsible Play — The CT Way, which partnered with the betting industry to inform players about playing responsibly. Through the launch of the responsinbleplayct.org website and statewide marketing, the impact has been substantial across the state.

DraftKings

DraftKings has pioneered a systems-based approach to training with the Division on Addiction, Cambridge Health Alliance.

This training provides DraftKings employees with the proper knowledge and skills to communicate safe play with customers and intervene if players are considered at risk.

In January 2022, DraftKings announced a $1,575,000 responsible gaming initiative providing multi-year financial commitments to U.S. state problem gambling councils, including the National Council on Problem Gambling.

State Council Funding Program may be used at the broad discretion of the council to improve services and programs for individuals and families, and also for council staff, including using the funds for training, conferences and helplines.

Entain Foundation U.S.

Entain’s player education program has reached more than 3,000 student-athletes, coaches and staff with thousands more set to be trained.

The Foundation sponsors former NBA player Charles Oakley’s initiative to add gaming education to other support for impoverished and underprivileged communities facing hunger, addiction and economic challenges. Oakley promotes the free app for anyone with gambling problems.

Entain’s Martin Lycka hosts his Safe Bet podcast with former athletes, prominent researchers, mental health experts and industry executives.

Many Entain principles appear in New Jersey's rulemaking to require technical and human behaviors-based programs as an operator licensing requirement.

The foundation also sponsors Harvard Medical staff research and the Entain-funded Center for Gambling, Policy and Health at UNLV.
