Bally’s hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip is undergoing another name change. Workers were seen at the resort this week removing the Bally’s lettering so its new name — Horseshoe — can go up.

The rebranding and renovation at the Caesars Entertainment Inc. property is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Sean McBurney, a Caesars executive, said 2022 “starts a new era for the Caesars Entertainment empire in Las Vegas, one being heralded by the return of Horseshoe."

"Bringing the Horseshoe brand back to life in Las Vegas allows us to celebrate both our history and our future," he said.

Las Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment is a publicly traded global gaming company whose properties include Horseshoe casinos in five other states. The company also operates the Caesars Sportsbook mobile app.

‘Good Food, Good Whiskey, Good Gamble’

In Las Vegas, the Horseshoe name was long associated with a downtown Glitter Gulch casino once operated by Benny Binion, a former Texan who launched the World Series of Poker at the property in 1970.

That casino was famous as ground zero for high-stakes risk-takers and gamblers looking for sports betting action.

Now named Binion’s, the casino is no longer owned by the Binion family but is a property of TLC Casino Enterprises. Benny Binion, whose motto for the Horseshoe was “good food cheap, good whiskey cheap, and a good gamble," died in 1989.

This year, for the first time ever, the World Series of Poker was held on the Las Vegas Strip at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas. The two Caesars Entertainment properties are connected by an interior walkway.

More Las Vegas Strip Name Changes

The Bally’s property on the Strip is undergoing its third name change since the resort opened in 1973.

Originally named the MGM Grand, it was the site in 1980 of one of the worst hotel fires in U.S. history, killing 87 people and injuring hundreds more. The fire led to some of the strictest fire safety codes in the country.

After the resort’s name was changed to Bally’s, a newer MGM Grand was constructed farther south on the Strip.

The second MGM Grand, which opened in 1993, is the green-tinted resort on the east side of the Strip near Harry Reid International Airport. This MGM Grand was built at the site of the Marina hotel-casino and incorporated some of the Marina's structure into its design.

Meanwhile, the Tropicana hotel-casino, also near the airport, has been acquired by Rhode Island-based Bally’s Corp. Among other changes at the site, the company has indicated it might rebrand the Tropicana, possibly as Bally’s.
