Our reviews compare the best Michigan online casinos across a variety of metrics.

However, with the local gaming scene just as buoyant offline as it is online, it would be a mistake to only focus on the latter. Therefore, we’ve compared two of the state’s largest tribal casinos, FireKeepers and Four Winds in New Buffalo, to give you an idea of what they offer and why you should visit them.

Opening Dates and Locations

Four Winds in New Buffalo is the older of the two casinos, but only by two years. This casino, which is owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, opened its doors in 2007. FireKeepers, which is owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi, opened in 2009.

You can find FireKeepers Casino and Four Winds at these locations:

  • FireKeepers Casino Hotel
  • Four Winds Casino New Buffalo

Firekeepers vs. Four Winds Size in Michigan

FireKeepers has a total footprint of 236,000 square feet. Of that, 107,000 square feet is gaming space. In contrast, Four Winds has 130,000 square feet of gaming space. That’s a sizeable difference but, FireKeepers packs a lot into what it’s got. This tribal casino has 2,900 slots and 76 table games. Four Winds has just over 3,000 slots and 60 table games.

So, even though Four Winds has more floor space, it doesn’t have significantly more games. Therefore, if you’re in a position where you want to choose one place to visit, the numbers suggest that Four Winds is better for slots and FireKeepers is better for table games.

Firekeepers vs Four Winds Facilities

You can play video slots and progressive jackpot games in both casinos, as well as blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps, and poker. However, it’s not all about gaming. FireKeepers has a 243-room hotel, and Four Winds has a 416-room hotel. When it comes to entertainment, FireKeepers has more bars, lounges, and eateries. For example, places like Kabaret and the Hotel Lobby Bar have excellent facilities and plenty of drinks offers.

Firekeepers vs. Four Winds Casino Promotions

There are plenty of ways to get more for less at both tribal casinos. Casual casino patrons can take part in monthly promotions and win everything from free bets to special prizes. For example, in February 2022, FireKeepers gave players the chance to win one of five Fords!

As well as monthly promos, these casinos have loyalty programs. Four Winds has the W♣ Players Club which has three levels (Red, Copper, and Premier). Each level entitles you to free bet credits, discounts, and live comps.

It’s a similar story over at FireKeepers. Regulars can join the Red Hot Rewards Club and earn points each time they play. There are three tiers (Smokin’, Sizzlin’, and Blazin’) and members get bonuses, discounts, comps, and enhanced customer service.

As you can see, both tribal casinos have plenty to offer. So, if you’re in the area and you want a break from playing online, they’re definitely worth a visit.
