Following a successful statewide online sports betting launch, the Connecticut Lottery is getting its first retail sports betting venue.

The Sports Haven sportsbook in New Haven is set to open at 2 p.m. ET today. It’s the first retail sportsbook from the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC).

The opening ceremony will include special guests, food, beverages and the first statewide, in-person sports wager. Various state and local officials, plus executives from the CLC, Sportech Venues and Rush Street Interactive will take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Online Launch, Tribal Retail Books

Statewide mobile sports betting has been live in Connecticut for six days following a week-long soft launch period that went smoothly.

Players can register, deposit and begin placing bets at FanDuel Sportsbook, SugarHouse or DraftKings.

FanDuel is partnered with the Mohegan Tribe, while DraftKings Sportsbook gained market access through a deal with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe.

The CLC settled on Rush Street Interactive as its sports betting partner after receiving and reviewing multiple applications from operators looking to enter the Connecticut market and is operating in the state through its SugarHouse Sportsbook brand.

“This is an exciting moment for our state and our tribal partners,” Gov. Ned Lamont said in a media release about the online launch. “Connecticut has proven to be a leader when it comes to the gaming economy going back decades, and that legacy will continue with the launch of these new online options for all eligible residents. I am very proud to say that I placed the first legal, in-person sports wager in our state’s history just two weeks ago, and I encourage those who want to participate in placing wagers to do so, responsibly. I extend my gratitude to the staff at the Department of Consumer Protection for their efforts over the last several months to make this possible, particularly since this is one of the fastest state implementations of online gaming and sports wagering of any state in the nation.”

DraftKings and FanDuel also feature online casinos gaming. More than 130 casino games have been approved by the Department of Consumer Protection for both operators.

Through their tribal partnerships, both DraftKings and FanDuel also have retail sportsbooks of their own for online gambling in Connecticut. The Mohegan Sun FanDuel Sportsbook is at the Bow & Arrow Sports Bar. It currently features more than 30 large, high-definition flat-screen televisions and 50 betting kiosks. An upgraded sportsbook is planned for this winter. It will include a 140-foot video wall, 36 betting kiosks and a full bar and food menu.

DraftKings also has a temporary sportsbook at Foxwoods Casino. Players can wager at the Ultimate Race Book or at any of the betting kiosks across the resort. A DraftKings-branded sportsbook is set to debut this fall on the Great Cedar Concourse next to the Great Cedar Showroom.
