Why Hasn’t DraftKings Launched in Louisiana Earlier?
Passed and signed by Gov. John Bel Edwards last June, Senate Bill 247 legalized online sports betting in Louisiana. House Bill 697 provided the framework for the market’s taxes and licensing procedures.
Retail sportsbooks have already gone live in the Pelican State. Caesars LA Sportsbook, for example, was operating inside of Harrah’s New Orleans. However, top LA online betting sites, are now ready to launch.

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) was taking too long in accepting applications and putting the final touches on market rules.
The LA State Police were performing long background checks on key personnel involved with prospective Louisiana sportsbooks.
Online operators within the sports betting Louisiana market were hoping for clearance in early 2022, and their wish has been granted. According to LGCB Chairman Ronnie Johns, though, online sports betting is coming to Louisiana on January 28th.
