BetMGM expanded its casino lobby with a new medieval-themed slot, Excalibur. The game, created by Entain's in-house software vendor Win Studios, includes imagery borrowed from the legendary Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, which is also owned by MGM Resorts. This is not the first time BetMGM has taken inspiration from one of its well-known land-based casinos and resorts.
Last year, the operator introduced slots based on the Luxor Hotel and Casino, MGM Grand, and Bellagio. Excalibur's debut signals that the trend of using popular brick-and-mortar casino brands as inspiration for online slots is quite popular among players.
In the official press release for the game's launch, Vice President of Gaming Product and Content at BetMGM, Oliver Bartlett, expressed pride in developing slots based on popular casinos and believes Excalibur will be a great addition to the portfolio of BetMGM games. Currently, Excalibur is exclusively available on BetMGM's New Jersey and Michigan online casino apps. However, a wider release is expected for the remaining iGaming markets covered by BetMGM.
Excalibur Uses a Conventional Slot Design
A deeper dive into the game reveals nothing innovative about it. BetMGM is trying to capitalize on brand recognition. This is not the first slot to adopt the popular legend about King Arthas' sword. Other renowned developers, such as NetEnt, offer games under the same name and medieval theme.
Win Studios' concept uses a 5x3 layout with 20 paylines and 243 possible ways to win. In addition to the standard wild and scatter symbols, this game includes a bonus feature, the Tournament of Champions bonus, triggered after six or more casino chip symbols appear on the screen.
The graphics are satisfactory, although the look of this slot is more reminiscent of an old arcade game style with a more cartoonish design. The symbols include face cards and various crowns, rings, and castles. There are four jackpots: Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand, with the last jackpot offering a prize pot of $10,000.
