Bookmaker Predicts NCAA Baseball Super Regional Winners

One of the biggest sports betting weekends in college baseball, the NCAA super regionals, start today, with eight pairings at campus ballparks across the country.

The eight super regional winners advance to the College World Series, beginning next weekend in Omaha, Nebraska. The final game to crown the Division I collegiate champion is Monday, June 27. 

 

Gambling.com reached out to John Shaw, sportsbook supervisor at the Boomtown and Margaritaville casinos in Northwest Louisiana, for his super regionals analysis and predictions, below. 

The teams play a best-of-three format. 

Notre Dame at No. 1 Tennessee

Tennessee comes in after wins in the SEC and regional tournaments. The Volunteers are one of the hottest teams in baseball, with a 37-3 record at home, and rightfully are the nation’s No. 1 overall seed. 

However, Notre Dame enters this series with a point to prove, since many thought they would host a regional tournament. 

The Irish swept the Georgia Southern regional after losing in the semifinals of the ACC tourney. Notre Dame is 10-8 on the road, with series wins over Florida State and North Carolina State.

Prediction: Tennessee wins 2 games to 1.

No. 9 Texas at No. 8 Eastern Carolina

Texas came into the season as the No. 1 team in the country and finished with a 27-7 home record. 

The Longhorns started the season hot with wins over LSU, Tennessee and Alabama, but then hit a mid-season rut before bouncing back and sweeping the regional. 

Eastern Carolina comes into this series having won 21 of its past 22 games, and has posted a 15-10 road record. 

This series will match two of the best fielding teams in the country. Texas is No. 1 and ECU is No. 3. 

Prediction: Texas wins 2-0.

No. 12 Louisville at No. 5 Texas A&M

Texas A&M rebounded after a disappointing exit in the SEC tournament to sweep its regional. 

Texas A&M holds a regular-season win over Texas and series wins over Ole Miss and Arkansas. The Aggies also are 25-9 at home. 

Louisville comes in with one of the best offenses when they are clicking. The Cardinals have a road record of 8-9-1 and have season sweeps over Notre Dame at home and Florida State on the road. 

Prediction: Texas A&M wins 2-1.

Oklahoma at No. 4 Virginia Tech

Oklahoma is coming off a Big 12 tournament win and beat No. 13 Florida twice in the regional to advance to the supers. The Sooners hold an 8-7 record on the road with series wins over TCU and Texas Tech. 

Virginia Tech comes in after sweeping its regional. The Hokies hold a 32-5 home record, with series wins over Miami and Louisville. 

Prediction: Virginia Tech wins 2-1.

UConn at No. 2 Stanford

UConn enters the series after upsetting No. 15 Maryland twice to secure the regional title. The Huskies also won the Big East tournament. 

UConn comes in with a 25-9 road record. The team was No. 5 nationally in walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP).

Stanford enters this series after grinding out its regional versus a very game Texas State team. The Cardinal came back late and secured the win to advance. Stanford comes in with a 24-6 record at home. 

Prediction: UConn upsets Stanford 2-1. 

Arkansas at No. 10 North Carolina

Arkansas rebounded from a disappointing SEC tournament by beating No. 7 Oklahoma State in the Stillwater regional to advance to the super regional.

The Razorbacks come in with a 7-8 road record and a 4-5 record over their past nine games. 

North Carolina has a 33-7 record at home and won the ACC tournament.

Prediction: North Carolina wins 2-0.

Ole Miss at No. 11 Southern Mississippi 

Ole Miss enters this super regional matchup with a 12-8 road record, including a sweep of LSU in Baton Rouge. Ole Miss also swept the Miami regional. 

Southern Mississippi enters with a lot of momentum after coming back in its regional to beat LSU. The Golden Eagles also have the No. 2 pitching staff in the country. Southern Miss enters this matchup with a 26-11 record at home and a spilt in an earlier two-game series with Ole Miss.

Prediction: Southern Miss wins 2-0. 

No. 14 Auburn at No. 3 Oregon State

Auburn enters the super regional swinging the bats as well as anyone. The Tigers put up 51 runs in three games last weekend in the regional. Auburn has a 10-8 record on the road, with series wins at LSU and Texas A&M. 

Oregon St battled to win its regional against a tough Vanderbilt team. The Beavers have a 21-8 record at home but lost series matchups against Stanford and UCLA at home. 

Prediction: Auburn upsets Oregon St. 2-1.

Prediction for final matchups at the CWS in Omaha

Tennessee vs. Texas

Texas A&M vs. Virginia Tech

UConn vs. North Carolina

Southern Miss vs. Auburn
