Super Bowl Betting: Coin Toss, Gatorade Bath, Game MVP, Plus Bookmaker Analysis

From the coin toss to the Gatorade bath, the Super Bowl offers bettors many wagering opportunities.

Below are bets to consider in the Feb. 9 title game in New Orleans between the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs and NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, are attempting to win their third straight Super Bowl.

Coin Toss, Gatorade Bath, Game MVP

The following information is provided by BetMGM Sportsbook.

Coin Toss

What will be the outcome of the coin toss?

  • Heads -102
  • Tails -102

Which team will win the coin toss?

  • Chiefs -105
  • Eagles -105

The outcome of the coin toss is a top 10 most bet prop. Sixty-five percent of the money is on the Chiefs to win the coin toss.

Gatorade Bath

  • Purple +250
  • Yellow/Lime Green +300
  • Red/Pink +350
  • Orange +400
  • Blue +650
  • Clear/Water +900
  • No Gatorade Bath +2500

Purple has moved from +350 to +250.

Twenty-six percent of bets (most) are on yellow/green/lime color.

The Eagles dumped Yellow/Green/Lime Gatorade on their coach after the NFC Championship game.

Pro Bookmaker’s Analysis

Below is betting insight that bookmaker Casey Lewless provided to Gambling.com. Lewless manages the ESPN Bet sportsbooks at the Margaritaville and Boomtown casinos in Northwest Louisiana.

Lewless: Let's talk spread and point totals. Kansas City is -1.5, and the over/under is 49. I don’t have a real feel for the -1.5, but I'm going over 49. If your sportsbook will take it, go with a parlay of:

  • Kansas City sacks over 2.5
  • Isiah Pacheco rush attempts over 5.5
  • Kareem Hunt receiving yards over 6.5
  • Jalen Hurts completions over 17.5

For anytime touchdown, the likely subjects (such as Saquon Barkley -215, Jalen Hurts -122, and Kareem Hunt +123) have been priced super low, in my opinion.

Same with Super Bowl MVP. Saquon Barkley and the two quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, have been priced low. That makes it hard to play anyone else because, for example, if A.J. Brown catches two touchdown passes, that also means Jalen Hurts gets credit for the two.

It’s interesting that neither quarterback is expected to throw an interception, as Patrick Mahomes is +105 and  Jalen Hurts is +128.

Pass completions are set at 17.5 for  Jalen Hurts and 23.5 for Patrick Mahomes. The general consensus is for Jalen Hurts to go over. Patrick Mahomes is a solid number.

Receiving yards, I'm going with a couple of small reaches, Kareem Hunt over 6.5 yards at -112 and DeAndre Hopkins over 13.5 at -114.

As for rushing attempts, I'm sticking with my Chiefs theme: Isiah Pacheco over 5.5.

Good luck!
