The MGCB Is Honored By the Global Regulatory Awards
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) is one of the finalists competing for the Regulatory Initiative of the Year at Vixio’s 2024 Global Regulatory Awards. With this nomination, the regulatory agency that oversees Michigan casinos online receives recognition for its efforts to prevent illegal gambling activities in the Wolverine State and maintain the integrity of the growing iGaming industry.
The Vixio Global Regulatory Awards honor organizations within the iGaming industry that make substantial efforts in sectors such as safer gambling, regulatory compliance, and corporate social responsibility. There are five other finalists besides the MGCB in the Regulatory Initiative of the Year category.
Prominent International Competition
Other contenders for the prestigious award include US and international organizations. In the United States, the agencies that have made the final cut include the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office and the San Manuel Gaming Commission from California. As for international agencies, the Betting and Gaming Council of the UK, the Botswana Gambling Authority, and NVSEP by idPair are also in consideration.
Each finalist was chosen for their determination to deliver regulatory excellence in their jurisdictions. The winner will be announced on December 4th in London at the 8th Global Regulatory Awards gala hosted by VIXIO Gambling Compliance. There will be an independent panel of experts to determine the winner.
Relentless Efforts to Provide a Safe Gaming Environment
This year's nomination in the Regulatory Initiative of the Year category highlights the agency's efforts to combat illegal gambling and create an accountable gaming market in the Great Lakes State. One crucial aspect of the MGCB's effort to stop fraudulent activities that endanger Michigan players is the Criminal Investigations Section (CIS), which is part of the MGCB and provides expertise to board members and different law enforcement agencies at every level, from local to state.
The executive director of MGCB, Henry Williams, said in the official press release announcing the nominations that Michigan is one of the fastest-growing North American markets and that the MGCB is constantly working to locate and remove illicit gambling machines. Williams highlighted that the Criminal Investigations Section performs regulatory and criminal investigations to facilitate a responsible gaming environment. Last year, five unlicensed online casinos received cease-and-desist letters, and several sweepstakes casinos have decided to stop their operation in the Wolverine State.
Last year, over 64 businesses in Michigan received letters to stop their illegal gambling activities. This fact showcases MGCB's efforts to eliminate unlicensed platforms. The agency has a proactive approach to tracking national trends and issuing warnings to illegal online companies that may attempt to enter the Michigan iGaming market. Currently, MGCB licenses 15 operators in the Great State Lake, which can offer online casino promotions and games such as slots, live dealer games, and table games.
