Throughout the season, we will give you betting advice for a National League and American League game each day and throw in a few quick pitches for player prop bets, Over-Under bets or moneyline bets on other games.

American League Best Bet

Oakland A’s (+194) at Los Angeles Angels (-235)

9:39 p.m. ET

The Angels reigning American League MVP, Shohei Ohtani, was not moved at the trade deadline and instead is the starting pitcher against Oakland, looking for his 10th win of the season.

After going 1-for-4 in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over the A’s, Ohtani is hitting .255 with 22 homers, 62 RBIs and 11 stolen bases, with a .846 OPS. On the hill, he is 9-6 with a 2.81 ERA, 145 strikeouts and 23 walks in 99 1/3 innings.

His strikeouts per nine innings pitched are among the best in MLB and he is facing one of the weakest offenses in MLB.

Situational Trends and Angles

The following situational trends and angles support a bet on the Royals.

  • The A’s are 17-29, losing 14.5 units when facing an AL foe sporting a slugging percentage of .400 or lower in the second half of the last two seasons.
  • The A’s are 2-17 when facing an AL starter with an ERA of 3.40 or lower.
  • The A’s are 5-17, losing 12.5 units on the moneyline, following a divisional loss and scoring no more than a single run in games played over the past two seasons.

I am betting the Angels boxed with Ohtani, the pitcher, in this game, using the moneyline at -235 at BetMGM.

National League Best Bet

Los Angeles Dodgers (-174) at San Francisco Giants (+146)

9:46 p.m. ET

At 69-33, the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in the majors and have defeated their divisional foe San Francisco Giants six consecutive times.

The Giants were sellers at the trade deadline and are 4.5 games out of the third and final wild-card berth. I see the raising of a white flag.

Situational Trends and Angles

The following situational betting trends and angles support a moneyline bet on the Dodgers.

  • Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias is 14-1 on the moneyline in road games facing a National League foe with an on-base-percentage of not greater than .325 in the second half of each season of his career.
  • The Giants are 13-24, losing 11 units on the moneyline, when facing an NL starter posting a WHIP of 1.25 or lower.
  • The Dodgers are 31-7 on the moneyline following back-to-back games in which they committed zero errors.

I am going to the window betting the Dodgers using the moneyline offered at -160 at FanDuel.

Quick Pitches

These are player prop bets to consider on today's schedule.

  • Bet the Angels' Shohei Ohtani to hit a home run +390 at DraftKings.
  • Bet the Dodgers' Freddie Freeman to hit a home run +750 at FanDuel.
  • Bet the Dodgers' Julio Urias Over 6.5 strikeouts +105 at BetMGM.
