$2 Million to Play for in BetMGM Poker State Championships this September

The BetMGM Poker State Championships is offering players in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan the chance to win a share of $2 million in guaranteed prize money this month. BetMGM Poker entered a new stage in its U.S. evolution in June when it hosted a $1 million guaranteed tournament at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The inaugural $3,500 live event attracted 343 players to beat its guarantee and give the winner, Joey Weissman, a $224,236 payday.
The success of that event has led to the creation of a bigger and better online series, according to BetMGM’s Director of Poker, Luke Staudenmaier.
“This has been a transformational year for BetMGM Poker. The momentum we’ve experienced in the past three months has inspired us to push for new heights,” Staudenmaier said in a press release.
Those new heights will see BetMGM Poker host its first state championships in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Each individual championship will be open to players within state lines, but the schedules align with each other. That means players in all three states will have virtually identical experiences. The only difference will be that players and prize pools are ring-fenced.
When is the BetMGM Poker State Championships?
The BetMGM Poker State Championships get underway on Sept. 15 and feature 26 events running through until Sept. 25. The total guarantee across all three series is $2 million but, if the previous form is anything to go by, the prize pools should exceed expectations.
BetMGM Poker State Championships Guarantees by State:
- New Jersey: $795,000
- Pennsylvania: $540,000
- Michigan: $680,000
Total Guarantee: $2,015,000
Buy-ins range from $100 to $2,500, but don’t worry if that’s beyond your limits. BetMGM Poker will be offering satellites before and during the series. Qualifiers start at just $5 and begin this week on Sept. 10.
To open even more doors to newbies and novices, BetMGM Poker is offering a special deposit bonus from Sept. 6 on. Players can also claim early registration rewards by entering MTTs before the cards start to fly.
State Championships Schedule
There are plenty of highlights on the schedule. The series gets underway on Sept. 15 with a $500 No Limit Hold’em event before the first Progressive Knockout tournament takes place the following day.
Also on the docket is a $2,500 high roller and a selection of daily Phase 1 events that conclude on the final day of the series.
Topping the bill, as expected, is a $1,000 championship event. Taking place over two days between Sept. 25 and 26, the 8-Max No Limit Hold’em tournament has six-figure guarantees in all three states:

- BetMGM Poker Michigan Main Event Guarantee: $200,000
